I have heard that tour drivers are 1 degree open at address.

Is this something that only people with low handicap players use or is it a matter of preference?

I believe that, generally, a Tour Player's - or better player - bad shot is a hook rather than a slice.
With a slightly open face the better player can swing more freely knowing that the likelyhood of a hook is greatly diminished.
It can also help a "lesser" player who's bad shot is a hook

If you're a slice I would have thought that an open face would cause havoc...

Most non adjustable drivers sit closed. Most golfers slice. This helps. Apparently.

Titleist drivers always sit open. They don't suit everyone.

Tm, particularly, have tour series drivers. Non tour series sit closed, tour series sit open. Tour series tend to be made of better materials, and tend to come with better shafts. They are more expensive too.

As said above, if you slice, then tour series are a bad idea, as are titleist. Unless you buy an adjustable one, but these are not miracle workers.

MY Mizuno mp630 fast track sits open as does the 3 wood. I've changed my swing this year, my bad shot was a hook, now i'm more upright and steeper my bad shot is a fade (slice). :(

I think this is one of the main reason Titleist have always aimed their drivers at so called better players where in theory the swing is better and less likely to hit slices. I agree that adjustable drivers can only do so much and if the swing is fundamentally flawed no amount of technology, shaft options or state of the art materials is going to make it go straight

There are plenty of drivers marketed with the word 'Tour' in their names, but some of this is vanity marketing (for example mine). Most of these sit somewhere between square and 1 degree open, with a few e.g. Tour Edge CB4 going as far as 2 degrees. .

Tour issue drivers, i.e those actually set up for real Tour players usually sit a bit more open than 'Tour' brands. Most Tour players have no problem turning the ball over when they want, but they hate hooking the ball and really hate the visuals of a closed face. Even some of those who want to draw the ball, e.g Darren Clarke, sets the club up with an open face, but the weights set to help a draw.

I am looking at the driver you used and after hitting the standard square faced driver i really liked it. My natural shot off the tee is a draw so would it be better to get the tour version?

Would the 1 degree really make a noticeable difference?

I also prefer the look as it doesn't have the design on the crown.

Do you tend to snap hook much? I played a Cally hyper x tour for a couple of years and liked it. Similar to patricks148 I did work on the swing and found myself losing a few to slice rather than fade so have gone to a neutral one. Could well just be between the ears though! If you liked the one you tried then maybe stick.

Depends on the player. Some like it open and others prefer it closed.

In general I like an open face on a driver as it allows me to see more of the loft on the club as well as be more aggressive into the ball knowing that turning it over left is less likely

I did 2 today and hit no slices. All the other where "perfect", oh yes, draw shots. The one I tested was the 10.5 stiff which is square. The tour 10.5 is 1 degree open so not a huge different. I have read that the CG and MOI are different to give a more peircing ball flight that suits higher swing speeds. I have about a 85mph swing with a driver. Hope this helps.

With the newer clubs you can change weights and shaft positions with all the toys these clubs have to change things like the flight characteristics and MOI to a certain extent.

It's all about what goes in a straight line.

with the slightly open face it gives you the confidence to go after it.....and if you swing the club faster there will be more lag with the head and a tendency for the face to come in to impact closed even with a good swing.
