after the trials and tribulations of the Belfry, tomorrow is the semifinal of the singles.

My first semi,
on my opponents course (Welwyn), which I have not played
who is off 10
and is the Society President
and the society only allows 3/4 difference
and cut me to 19.6 just because I won last time out

I must be a closet masochist

Welwyn Garden City?

It's a nice course, good luck x

Enjoy. Go there with positives from your trip to the Belfry and don't expect too much and you might just cause and Burnley like surprise. Try and use your shots wisely and remember its not how you score tomorrow against par but how you score compared to the opponent

Good luck V17, and remember you can always take heart from your unsurpassed drive with a nice bit of draw on the 18th yesterday........

If all else fail, just get your head down, slow it all down and go for the zen :)

oh joy! it's been a lovely morning, blue sky, kindly wind and now two hours to the off - the wind's come up, thick black clouds and driving rain.

at least I don't rust!

well, I lost 3&1, which considering I was 3 down after 5 getting it to go as far as 17 isn't too bad, though putting the tee-shot OOB was.

the course is short and tight, the greens on a par with the PGA for speed, vgc.

some good things to take from the game, some good driving, and mostly good irons - must work on direction. putting was weak, although a 45ft, downhill breaker on the 18th was a bit special.

one hole I don't think I could have played any better. short par 4 (288), tight dogleg left, blind hole played across a deep cut, trees all down the left, bunkers right, tee position tight to the left. hit a 4-iron off the tee, drew it round the bend to 75 yards dead in front of the green. Unusually for me, used a PW to chip to 9 in. Birdie!

I love this game!

not too demoralised, I'm through to the doubles final and have another society trophy to go for on Monday at Burghley.

Halved the first but he was playing well and really used his knowledge of the course, but he had his share of luck too - the trees were his friends. I was hitting straight and long early on but put one into the bushes on another; putting didn't help, slid so many across the left edge, they were close enough that a bit slower and most would have dropped. I actually got back level at the turn. Had to concede the 10th from way out though, (one in the hedge, drop, over the hedge).

I was more than pleased to have taken the 18th. OK all over then but still competing.
