I am interested to know, what you all feel is a sufficient number of Q's at a golf club?

Personally, I feel that during the summer there is no reason why there shouldn't be an individual competition every week. My club has a large amount which i love, and i was actually told by our competitions secretary that we the most of any club in the country (dont hold me too it).

on the contrary, i know a club 10miles away that has no more than 2 a month throughout the summer - for that reason alone i would not joing that club.

how many does your club have? do you feel its too many? not enough?

the nature of the club and who's organising/administrating them will be the primary elements influencing this.

we have around 70 - 80

My club has a lot.... too many IMO as I prefer social golf, I'm not interested in playing lots of comps.

i genuinely wouldn't be a member of club that had only about 15 events a season (doing the maths on the previous post).

I suppose it depends what you like, personally i struggle with Social golf, as i am super competitive, but playing in comps is a choice, so the should still be available.

At a minimum i think there should be a midweek comp (not everyone can play weekends) and a weekend comp.

Comp secs have a thankless job, but the large majority are brilliant and deserve a huge amount of respect!

we have 2 Saturday medals 2 Wednesday bogey comps and 2 Sunday a month then 11 other silver trophy comps.

Id like more as we do have an almost 6 week slot from Aug to mid sept when there is hardly any, a couple more would not go a miss

I'm with you. Too often the course gets crammed with competitions meaning less chance to get on for those who don't want to play competitive golf, quite a number, or who just want to play 9 holes or so. Not everyone is obsessed by competitions.

For Men: Virtually every Wednesday & Saturday, plus some Sundays through the season (March to October). Then there is a winter league of none qualifiers over November to February.
For Ladies: I think every Tuesday & Thursday over summer

We have qualifying comp every Saturday approx March-October + Seniors every Tuesday same period + Wednesdays between early may and Mid September. Winter are non qual but still a comp every Tuesday/Saturday if the course is playable. Competition golf is what it's all about at the end of the day, just like any sport.

Competition golf is what it's all about at the end of the day, just like any sport.

I disagree with that. Competition is part of golf, absolutely, but it is also a great social sport and many enjoy it for that reason and don't want the stress of a competition. Clubs have to balance the needs of both groups.

Midweek comp every other week all year (can play any day in the week) then a saturday medal each month then probably another 20 qualifying comps over the summer months, so somewhere in the region of 50 if you can play midweek (once you assume a few lost to the weather)

We have over a hundred easily.
Nearly every Saturday and Sunday unless a team comp and Wednesdays through the summer.
Seniors also have qualifiers Mondays,Wed and Fridays.
Of course you don't have to enter them all and can have social games as well.
To be honest I think that's far too much especially all year round.
Our course can become very wet and the greens very soft so it can become target golf.
The other problem is that you only have to play 3 qualifying comps a year to keep your
official handicap.
So some just play 3.
Also some comps have as little as 7 people in at times and that just doesn't motivate me at all.

Golf without some element of competition is just a rambling club....fresh air, exercise, good company etc. Why spoil the good walk :)
