Hard to believe but it's 30 years since one of the most iconic films of the 1980s came out, the one with more repeatable lines and memorable scenes than any other.

I feel the need, the need for speed!

I remember seeing it in a cinema in London when I was down there on a course. Big screen, surround sound, the whole works. Still think it's a good watch if there's nothing else on.

Havent seen it in years but its an enjoyable actioner.

Reputedly backed heavily by the US military as a vehicle to help justify huge defence budgets back in the day by glamourising war, creating heroes, villains, good v bad, bit of romance for the laydees via soppy ballads like no.1 single by Berlin etc etc.

My fave bit is when he gets the polariod of the Rusky pilot. I see they're still selling the 'Because I was inverted' written upside down t shirts online, would quite like one but I'm 46 so it'd be too sad......not that that's ever stopped me!:p

my room mate in my first year at Uni loved this film, knew every word to it he'd seen it that many times, hate to think how many times i watched all or part of it that year!

Now if you were talking Blazing Saddles, I could pretty much quote that film, not that I could within these forum walls for fear of a warning.

"Paaarrrrppppp Thawpppppppppppp, Faaaarrrrrrrrttttttt" :)
