Top gear presenters named

Chris Evans is the main host helped by the others

Can see it bombing whilst the Clarkson etc on Amazon will be a success.

You can't create chemistry and for Hammond etc they had it naturally.

Good group, Didnt Sabine drive the truck round the Nurbergring so has been on the old show a few times.

All depends on the format, but you cant argue with the presenters pedigree or credentials.

However Coulthard is a bit square, not just his jawline, they will need a bit of time to gel and banterize.

might actually be a bit more of a proper car show rather than a circus

Chris Harris aka Monkey is a top fella. A good shout for the beeb to get him, not too fussed on sabine.
I would think that it would be a close call for who is quicker between Harris and Coulthard.

Why didn't they just let the dust settle then bring out a completely new show with new presenters under a different name?

The Clarkson sycophants are never going to give this a chance and I don't see it getting many new viewers either? I don't understand who it's supposed to be appealing to??

Looks a decent group to me.. Sabine is a peach and a great driver.. Coulthard is outspoken and dryly funny.. Harris is a good call.. In all fairness, the only one I'm not over keen on is Evans himself.. Always has the air of a weaselly little swine.. Should be fun if they can come up with an original format..

Which as you will no doubt remember as we argued ad infinitum many moons ago, will make for a very dull program. Top Gear stopped being a 'proper' car show when Angela Rippon left, which is the main reason why it was so popular. Not the fact that Rippon finally left, but because it was 3 blokes messing around with cars being a crutch for their antics. As soon as they start mentioning MPG or turning circles 90% of the audience will just switch off.

I agree, nice clean new show, don't compare it to the human circus that made me stop watching the later episodes which were all just about individual self importance, I think it has to be looked upon with fresh eyes, don't think it has to compete or even attempt to compete with what's on Amazon, it's on terrestrial TV so hopefully it will win the viewers over and go from strength to strength, good gang IMO.

I think they have a dilemma

Top Gear was an entertainment program first and foremost - it was grown men doing what grown men wanted to do , play around in fast cars and visit countries and have fun. That's what made it massively popular all over the world - other countries tried to replicate but it's hard to get the chemistry to pull it off

Fifth Gear is a program that focuses on the cars - no idea if it's still on but it was dull as dishwater

So are people interested in programs about cars and cars alone ? Well looking at Fifth Gear I don't think so in big numbers

So if Top Gear try that way I think it will struggle to attract the level of viewers

And if it tries to copy what Hammond and Co did then it could be car crash telly

A lot of the appeal for Top Gear was the three guys - who will the new program appeal too ? I think they have made a mistake in not starting a whole new program from scratch.

Imagine if the Amazon program smashes Top Gear in the ratings

Well Tashyboy for one will give it a chance. Thought top gear was getting to predictable and quite frankly some of the later day antics were naughty to say the least.
Anyway talking about the new show. Do us men now have a bit of "eye candy". If the laydee is a decent driver can see one or two "competitions" between her and the men. Love to see DC coming second to her.
Do we now need "The STIG"?
yup looking forward to it. When does it start.

Think I'll give it a go.
I use to be a big Top Gear fan,but got bored of seeing the same stuff every week.
Clarkson became very irritating & seemed like he was being controversial just for the sake of it.
Hammond is just his lapdog.

At best it will be like the overseas versions of Top Gear, at worst it will be 5th Gear. The fact that they have now got people who drive professionally is not a good thing to me ;)

hope the new program is a success, and hopefully the old gits version is aswell.

maybe with the new 1 they will show case real cars for real people,BUT they will have to make it fun or peeps will turn off in droves.
clarkson et al,were a bunch of blokes pratting about, and those who like to watch that would love to do it themselves.

die hards will always watch hamster/captain slow and jezza and even if its crud it will still be watched.

top gear has a lot to prove in the new format.and agree with some of the comments, evans can sound like a pompus prat at times with the attitude of look at me arnt i the most important person here.

Have been a Top Gear fan for many years but rather thought it was getting a bit stale. I will certainly be giving the new one a go.

I haven't watched top gear for years due to it being repetitive, unfunny and predictable.

I'll definitely give this a go. I'm just pleased JC's yellow crooked teeth won't be on my screen anymore. Repulsive bloke.
