popped to the club today, for a cpl of hours short game practice, and looked at the comp board and noticed a stableford comp next sunday, so stuck my name down, in a field of over 30, asst pro says i will more than likely be playing of 27/28 and that my cards will be processed ready for sunday

excited and nervous as its my "first" competition, just going to enjoy it and take in the experience

any first timer tips?

:D

Dont be nervous. Just go out and enjoy it. Dont get down if you play a bad shot, just enjoy it.

just go out and enjoy it.. i was nervous for my first comp but after the 1st tee shot the nerves had gone and i went on to enjoy a nice round of golf, not that i played that well!!

Best thing i have done is join up to my club!!

Good Luck

You will be nervous but its expected. Just take a deep breath on the first and enjoy it.

If your playing partners are aware its your first comp they'll probably show you the ropes.

Afterwards you'll wonder what all the fuss was about ;)

One note check the rules and if unsure on where the ball has finished hit a provisional. Most important relax and enjoy it, try and think of it as another round with friends.

if you get to a score where you can't make a stableford point, don't forget there is no need to hole out on each hole.

There is nothing more frustrating than seeing the group in front holing out unnecessarily for 6s and 7s on a par 3 when your waiting on the tee behind.

Others might say I'm being cynical but if you want to stay popular, think of other players trying to play a round at a decent speed

Try not to get too tense and force it and swing too hard. If you aren't sure of a ruling or how to proceed ask before touching your ball or making a shot. Keep up with the pace of play and if you get in trouble don't be a hero and get it out the shortest route possible. Other than that enjoy it. Once you get than handicap the fun of trying to get it down starts. Have fun

Get there early, have a warm up on practice green.

You can use the short game area as well as its not deemed as part of the course AS LONG AS YOU STAY WITHIN THE BLUE STAKES.

Read up on the format, rules etc. Explain to whoever your playing with that it's your first time. Everyone I played with at Upton were very good when I first started.

Remember to use your shots. And play within your own game, don't try and match who your playing with. It's you vs the course, you beat the course better than everyone else, you win!

Good luck, enjoy it.
