Is it me or is it all getting a bit much now to keep track of. Tge AD333 thread got me thinking that I have little idea of which brands make which balls now and where they sit in their range. Because they keep changing names I would be hard pressed to tell you which are Nike, Callaway and TMs current premium balls abd I am totally confused by the Srixon range. At least Titleist and Wilson Staff keep it relatively simple by keeping the same names most years. To me the whole market is a bit of a mess now.

I only play pick ups and don't have a problem with this at all.

If I like the feel of the ball I'll play it regardless of it's brand, title etc - although in practice I've lived with them all so long that it's not really an issue staying on top of most of it.

I quite like the idea of releasing new balls every year, it means last years model gets sold off cheep to clear stocks.

Last year I managed to pick up 8 dozen penta TP3's for £16 a dozen, that's about half price.

Wait! are you suggesting that TM and Callaway release new products too often?

Just reminded me of another reason for me to dislike TM! Quite soon after they started in the ball business, they made a TP ball in 2 styles - Red and Black. The following year, they swapped either the colours or the attributes. I instantly stopped using TM balls!

No problem with yearly releases of balls - though it's a bit frustrating when you get used to one style and then they change it for 'little' reason!

Indeed, I am using the HEX Chrome, got these for 16 a doz too.

To be fair don't Titleist update the ProV1/ProV1x just about every year, but I guess that's an update and they keep the model name the same(/similar for the pedantic who will point out the ProV1 392)

I think we pay way too much attention to golf balls anyway. I bet that if you gave a golfer a ball that is the most unsuitable for his game without him knowing he'd still get it around on a usual score

me too thousands of them, must pick up half a dozen every night when i walk the dogs.

If you have any srixon soft feels I'll buy them off you.

My mate will only play srixon soft feels and all the other decent pick ups he gives to me (he walks his dog round the course in the evenings) so I'd like to gets some decent soft feel pick ups for him.

If you had asked me last year i had a 100 soft feel, they are less popular this year and winter as i don't remember picking up too many of late. I'll have a look though.

there is no such thing as an unsuitable ball!

This was not so much about what to use more that manufacturers keep introducing new balls, new names, new balls with similar names, applying old names to different areas of their range, the lot. Its hardly surprising that Titleist are the number 1 ball, at least you can pick up a box of Pro V and know what you are getting. I could not say the same for many other companies at the moment. I could pick up a box of Nike, Callaway or TM and have no idea whether it was premium, mid range or otherwise. What happened to building a brand name and sticking with it.

I have to be honest, the TM TP red and black were two of the best balls I've played and I was gutted when they stopped making them. There are too many balls on the market and the hype behind what they do and where they are aimed doesn't clarify the situation. While I've always preferred Pro V, I am beginning to go away from these and get equally good performance for my ability from cheaper options like the AD333 tour, Bridgestone 330RXS etc.

agree on the new names. Callaway with their SR# range! Nike now gone colours what will it be next year?

Maybe worth starting another thread .But what's the most games you've played without losing a ball , and what's the most rounds you've played with the same ball.????

As someone who can remember what was on offer 30 or even 20 years ago I think it is great that there are so many really good balls to choose from. It can be bewildering keeping up with what's what, especially in that mid range market but I love trying out different ones and there aren't any bad ones from the major manufacturers. I don't think whatever I choose in that range is going to have much of an impact on on my score so it's no big deal really, just about personal preference.

Look at the price! sub £20 a dozen is their budget ball, £25-35 their mid range one and £40+ is the premium offering! not that tricky is it?
