Tony Jacklin

I did wonder if the forum should of had a sweepstake on how many times they will trot out the 'gags', like Tony being a good swinger etc etc

It worries me that people will stereotype golfers as being old and badly dressed in naff clothes ............ Oh I am!

Well he did mention something about representing golf in his intro. And he did make a 'swingers' joke. At that point my heart sunk a bit as I too looked at him and thought, yes you do represent the stereotypical view most people have of golfers. So let's hope he can dance like Fred Astaire, although somehow I doubt it and I suspect he will be one of the first out.

And I love the way the OP tries to claim that they were not watching it but 'their wife' had it on. Don't be ashamed, Strictly is quality TV. And this year with the lovely Susanna from BBC Breakfast, as well as Rachel Riley and Ola Jordan the professional dancer, there are some honeys in it to keep the interest.

As long as Rachel stays in to the very end I don't mind when TJ bites the dust. Hopefully they will find a smaller outfit for her to wear next time.

I am more than sure strictly know their audience, and indeed Rachel's dresses will no doubt show off her undeniable assets. Of course by that I am talking about her massive IQ ;)

I think its all a bit sad for him. Im all for a few "B" class celebs prancing around the stage in tight tops and short skirts for a laugh or charity but an ageing golfer, agreed world class in his time> Does he really need the money and the exposure....? which can only be embarrassing by doing this.. and lets face it as well he's not a great in the social skills area really either so I doubt he will engage the audience in other ways and lets face it no one will really know who he is under the age of 40.... Time to take a bow Tony and go pirouette back to what you know best me thinks....

I think the producers have admitted that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find celebs for it after so many series. They tend to go for the same types every year (soap stars, BBC presenters, wag/model, fit male sports star, fat old bird who will give Craig RH some lip) and I am sure they deliberately use cannon fodder who they know will go out early so the decent dancers and people who will bring in the ratings get a good run at it. And I suspect Tony is cannon fodder this year.

Well at least he did not enforce the stereotype of golfers being badly dressed fat old white males. And who'd have thought that old golfers can't dance. But at least the public obviously took him to their hearts as they voted in their hundreds of thousands for him.

To be honest I'd much rather we had all TJs, Hairy Biker lads, VFs, DMs etc than any semi-pro dance celeb who has had plenty of dance tuition in the past. I'd much rather having a group of 'celebs' drawn from across the age demographic starting at about the same level of incompetence - and seeing who are the best learners. I don't watch it for professional quality dancing. If I want top quality dancing I go watch the pros.

If Vanessa Feltz is cannon fodder, I do not even want to begin to imagine how big the cannon would have to be.

Of course you are beiing ironic as you know that you don't fire cannon fodder out of a cannon - you fire at cannon fodder - cannon fodder being easy to 'take out'. So if I follow your thinking in respect of VF then you'd not actually require a very big or accurate cannon at all.
