Tom Petty dead

very strange, CBS and Rolling Stone both reported him dead 2 hours ago, saying no signs of any brain activity after being found after a heart attack, and his life support had been switched off.

The CBS link I quoted was 13 minutes old at the time I posted it; are they backtracking? It is very strange, let's hope it's a Mark Twain moment.

More likely to be a Brian Matthew scenario, I'm afraid. Latest word is he is clinging to life, but not expected to survive. Family have agreed he won't be resuscitated if his heart stops again.

Very sad, both the death (if it is) and the confused reporting. Usually post a YouTube link to one of my favourite tracks but under the circumstances the duet with Stevie Nicks is somewhat inappropriate.

I bought American Girl as a single back in 1977. Still love that song, it's on my Spotify gym playlist, and must come on twice a week. Still sounds as great as ever.

I also bought Listen to her Heart 12 inch single in 1978, mainly because it had a version of I Fought The Law on it - I was a massive Clash fan, I knew they were playing IFTL but hadn't recorded it yet, and I wanted to learn it to play with my punk band before The Clash put their version out! We did a great version of it (sadly no recording exists!!)
