Three rounds of foursomes in a day - one on each of the Minchinhampton courses. Really looking forward to it - hoping weather is kind and my sore foot is better by then - anyone else playing?

I'm playing. My kid bro is a member of Minchinhampton new (which has 2 of the 3 courses) so I've played them a couple of times but not been on the Old yet. Can't wait for it, just need to find a game from somewhere, there's going to be a few late nights on the range I think.

I'm playing with the mate with whom I played successfully for years with in the Avon and Somerset Club Scratch Foursomes League. We also won plenty of four ball competitions so we used to know each other's game and temperaments really well. But that was nearly 20 yrs ago...and we haven't played a huge amount of golf together since - though we are played Newbury and Crookham next Thursday (fingers crossed it dries up a bit). But hey - friendships borne out of golf lasts forever because if anything is designed to wreck a fragile friendship - well that is golf (other than marriage but let's not go there). We are off at 8:11am.

I played the Chevington & Avening both on Monday, 2 very different courses, especially the greens.

I'm sure if I played foursomes on them I'd lose a friend, the Chevington was unforgiving with excellent fast undulating greens with a links feel about it and the Avening more traditional parkland but with some decent water on the back 9 and long par 4's off the whites.

2 excellent courses, 3 if you count the Old course which I drove past and nearly crashed looking at the layout and with a real friendly bar & excellent food from the restaurant, its a place I will visit as often as possible.

Have a good knock ;)

I think my mate's played at least one of the courses - I've not played them before. Hope the weather is half decent as it's going to be tough if the weather is poor.

Right, I can't make this comp now so there will be a space available!

on the plus side, it's because I qualified to Dubai in the Matchplay Championship and that flies out on the 11th!

Tomorrow looms and my golf is as massively variable as the weather is forecast to be tomorrow. Noty great potents for three rounds of foursomes - no matter - much looking forward to the challenge and can only do my best. No saying sorry over rubbush shots and no celebrating good ones - just get on with it - it's foursomes.

play well and hope the pants forecast doesnt come true.

Well weather was Ok for much of the time - but at other times truely horrendous weather - worst weather I think I've played in for 25 yrs. Torrential rain, gales, hail and cold. There was one point I was in my shirt sleeves in the sun for about 5 minutes (about 4pm) - but that was it.

But I really enjoyed the day and all three courses.

I really enjoyed Minchinhampton common - good fun and some quirky holes. Of the three my favourite was the Avening - a bit more variety and feel to it. Cherington was excellent - but felt a bit immature still and some of the holes felt a bit open and even a little 'samey' as a result. But I really enjoyed playing all three and would hope to play the event again next year.

I think if the greens of the Cherington were on the Avening it would be superb. I think the Cherington needs another month for the penal wispy grass to grow which closes it in ala links but its still relatively a new course overall I believe.

I've still to play the common but only hear good things so maybe later in the year.

And so me and my bestest golf buddy are off to Minchinhampton (10th May this year) to have another go at three rounds of foursomes - doing all three Minchinhampton courses in the day. Old Course - 8:11am; Cherington - 12:05pm; Avening - 15:31pm

Just as well I'm not hitting every shot. And it's going to rain again - like it did last year - oh well.
