I think that true show of emotion shows just that the guy is not only the greatest golfer to ever play the game but despite the rumblings on here of some saying he was a bad father and sould be at home raising his kid he has a side to him that people truely never see.Hats off to him a great role model for all to aspire to.

Tiger is an amazing golfer but I honestly think that all the others should chuck it. If Tiger can take 5 weeks off, get some surgery and STILL win a major it tells me that the other guys are just there for the cheque and nothing more.

Professional golf has lost out today.

Tiger has such sheer will to win-

i agree a lot of the players appear happy to get a sizeable cheque from the game and are not too interested in making the necessary changes to compete with Tiger.

I think guys like Rocco and Westwood and Ogilvy really tried to win but Tiger is simply too good, not much the others can do but hope they play above their ability and Tiger has an off-week.
A middle-aged bloke ranked 158 in the world without a win since 1993 almost beat Tiger, I think yesterday changed a lot of minds on the merit of an 18 hole play-off, it was great viewing, nip and tuck and a huge crowd turned up too. Well done Tiger only 5 to go, should have the record within 5 years if he can fix that knee.

Stu, I agree that Rocco put up a great fight but where were the likes of Mickelson, Garcia, Furyk, and the rest of the 'best'?
Nowhere !!!

As for Westwood, he will never have another opportunity like this to win a major.

Andy,
Not sure what can be done, I'm sure Furyk would try his hardest but he doesn't have the form he did a year or two back, Mickelson is a bit of a mystery, he's gone toe to toe with Tiger before and beaten him but I think age is catching up with Furyk, Phil and Ernie now. They say 38-40 isn't old but Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player both stopped winning at about 38. Jack of course had a last hurrah at the Masters at 46 but he was not competitive on tour after 40.
The ones I'd worry about are Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, Luke Donald etc, they dont seem able to make that final step up in the big ones.
Hoping Anthony Kim keeps improving but he, like Donald, looks a bit slight of physique to challenge on the long courses.
The situaton looks much worse than say 6 or 7 years ago when Duval, Ernie, Mickelson etc all seemed much closer to Tiger, the gulf in class seems to have widened since then. Not good for the game really.

andy, not sure I entirely agree about Westwood if he takes the right lessons learnt from this into The Open. If he doesn't then he's destined to be the next Monty.

as birdieman said, it's Scott, Garcia, Casey, Donald, Rose that I think are playing below where they could/should be but it will be Kim, Snedecker and the like that could make the grade (though they are still to be tested playing real golf).

I have to disagree i think Lee will get more opportunities, he played excellent all this year and end of last, he's worked on his putting and drives the ball better than most.

Good bet for the open, he'll be back.

;)

I can't see a time when Lee Westwood will be leading a major with 9 holes left. I think he is a terrific guy and golfer but I don't think he will find himself in that position again and if he wins The Open I will run round Shotts Golf Course in the nuddy.

I think that will be one for Golf P**k
