To iron or not to iron

That is the question. Have had my irons for 12 years and got a bonus from work, so was thinking of getting something new. However, when I got them, I was fitted for them and had the stock shaft lengthened and only probably played 4 times a year, whereas now I try and get out at least once a week. My handicap is down, am more settled with my game and I do like the heads (TM 540xd's).
Therefore, is it worth getting fitted for new irons that will have a modern shaft & head or get the old heads re-shafted with a more matched shaft?

Would think you would benefit majorly from a new set to be honest as technology has got to of improved. What I would say though is try as many as you can so look for a multi-brand demo day. However I finally replaced my MX17's (2004) last summer and have a new set on order already so make sure you are happy with what your buying.

go and have a try of a few, see what you like then go for a fitting and compare them.

or just go to an independent fitter and see what works best, might be more expensive
