To have or not to have? 14 clubs...

I carry 13 normally. I think people get too worried about gaps. Especially round 180 -220 yards. I don't know many folk who can hit those distances accurately to worry about having a 20 yards difference. I know plenty who think they can, but the reality is very different.

I carry 14 but don't hit Driver or 5w very often

3w hits far more fairways than driver and I can still get one out there on occassion so may even ditch the Driver

go through patches where I hit lots of 3w and then a wedge

other times I find I'm hitting lots of 7's & 8's

Rules should be changed to allow unlimited number of clubs, but you have to carry them and you are not allowed a caddy.
Medical exemptions would be allowed, but you would be limited to 6 clubs in total

I hardly ever use my 8 iron, thinking of leaving it out the bag to save weight. I do use it for the odd 3/4 shot but its no use on any par 3s at my course.

Wow, a mid iron, that's weird, its almost like you land the ball in the same areas every week so have no club adjustment to make for landing at a slightly different distance. Also do you not change to a different club to allow for the wind? I dunno, if you had say a 7i distance to go with say a 1 club wind on your back, would you not choose the 8i instead?

I only use Driver , 24 deg Hybrid, 5i, 7,8,9, pw , 56deg wedge and putter covers everything I need and only use driver on a few holes, has meant that I manage my way around a lot better, rather than thinking "got a 3/5 wood must have a go at the pin" Have convinced my son he only needs 6/7 clubs and his scores have improved as he now plays a % game.

I recently had 13 clubs in the bag as my 52° has low bounce and would dig in when the ground was soft so took it out. I put it back and I am back to 14 clubs although I rarely use my 4 iron I never know when a situation arises that I might need it.

It is a little strange to me. 8I is probably one of my most used clubs in the bag for little pitches on around the green etc

I use my 8i for full shots and chip-putts. I can't quite get my head around having a problem with a specific iron in the middle of a set, to me 6i->9i play pretty much the same with the exception of the distances. I can understand problems at either end of the scale like slicing long irons or thinning short irons but not a mid iron, perhaps its time to get the actual club checked out?

I have 14 as I couldn't be without my wedges to the point I dropped the 3 iron to get the 4th in the bag and had my 4 iron adjusted to be between the 3 and 4 irons to keep my gapping even.
