As I am looking to get fitted for new irons I have been trying different clubs, today I tried Orka and Speed blades, I wasn't keen on the feel of the Orkas but thought the SBs felt great. So I had a look at comments about TM clubs on here and found a lot of negative stuff.

So has anyone tried or got Speed blades, if so how do you find them?

Also What have people got against TM?

The basic gripe about TM is that they release a lot of gear so your latest model isn't the latest for long, although as others have pointed out, some other manufacturers do the same and seem to get away with it. Probably the way that TM pushes the advertising & technology as the latest great thing then very quickly releases the next great thing in very short order that gets people.

Mainly aggressive marketing and overly regular new launches meaning models are outdated 6-8 months after launch.

On another note precision golf did a like for like test on speed blade and rocketbladez and found very little difference so if you are interested the other thread noting golf depot price £299 then AG price match minus 10% meaning they maybe had for £269...,..

People don't like TM because they bring out equipment on a regular basis and they don't like their marketing and advertising ( I think it's quite easy to ignore advertising etc )

I have never witnessed it so bad as on here - Calloway are currently worse than TM but get none of the bile aimed at them as TM do.

At the end of the day you should use whatever you feel is best for you - if that's the TM Speedbladz and you get the results from them you want then purchase them. I would ignore any negativity about specific manufacturers. Obviously it's always good to find out specific reviews on specific models but some will be immediately negative about a model based on the manufacturer.

If you do like the Speedbladz then certainly try the rocketbladz as well

Ive wanted the Rocketbladez for some time but for me they are far far to loud, I bought a 4 iron and feel embarrassed at the range. Sounds terrible and LOUD, apparently the Speedblades are the same

Interesting comments about the similarity with Rocketbladez, I will try those too, although not too keen on anyone that feels the need to replace an s with a z

now you are joining the anti camp!

if you go on absolutely any forum you will find a target - they all have them, it's the nature of such groups that pretend to be specialists. Examples -

1. Computers - Microsoft
2. Fishing - Fishing on man made commercial fisheres
3. Cameras - Anything that isn't a Leica or a Hasslebad
4. etc
5. Golf - Taylor Made Clubs and Pinnacle Balls

anyone not holding such beliefs clearly isn't an in person....

personally I don't have a problem with them, and there are times when they are the only clubs in the bag; but then again I'm big, old and ugly enough to have my own opinion :whoo: and am currently using DT SoLo balls too!

I've used TM stuff over the years and will continue to do so if it fits the bill. Really settled with my RBZ driver although the Accra shaft is miles more stable than the std job. The 3 wood has took me a while to get used to but it's a net burster. I'm trying TM tour irons right now with KBS shafts and to get on average an extra 11 yards length and 5 yards height from the 5 iron alone gets my attention. I had to constantly go back to my 53s to see if I could get near the TM but I couldn't. Trying the 8 irons back to back gave me the same result. TM have cleverly used a slightly different grade of steel between the speed pocket longer irons and the std shorter irons. Oh, I'm using a TM putter as well.

Your best bet is to go and hit the ones you like and see which suit you best. Just judge them off how they perform for you.

Somebody somewhere will have had a bad experience with every type of club and make so just get whats best for you.

One of the guys in our group got a set of Rocket Blades irons, he was really chuffed with how much distance he gained and was bragging about how he hit his 6 iron as far as the rest of us were hitting 5 irons, until someone held his 6 iron next to their 5 and the rocketbladz was still a longer shaft;)

The loft was probably less than your 5 irons too!

people moan about TM because they are successful:smirk:

#1 Driver on tour etc

they have clubs to suit everyone, who cares if its called megatastic thunder driver as long as it works for you.

Lofts and lenghts arent much different to other manufacturers when you compare their 'tour' clubs.

louise, try the rocketbladez tours

TM make good kit, kit that is good enough not to need to have so much marketing nonsense attached to it, that is my only gripe with TM. I have owned and liked TM kit in the past, I dare say at some stage I will again.

are the short irons as long as these mid irons? surely someone who is smaller than average is going to struggle with shorts irons that are much too long.

I bought irons that are an inch and a half over standard. they are much too long in the short irons. I cant get anywhere near the ball so are currently for sale on ebay. the medium and long irons I could use just fine.

Marketings job is to get their name out there, noticed, talked about, be one of the first manufacturers people say when asked, support increased sales etc

do you think they are succeeding?

I avoid TM because in recent years their equipment just looks tacky and cheap, but in a way that our society just seems to lap up - very X-Factor'y. Nike are all over this market too and Adams are starting to go down this route with their latest offerings. Callaway went off piste when their X something or other driver arrived, though the new BB's look like a tentative return to former days. It's a fine line with many companies - Ping seem to tread it quite cleverly. Hate to see Mizuno jump on the [RB]Z bandwagon with the EZ range. Titleist seem to be the only mainstream company steering well clear and sticking to high quality 'ordinary' offerings.

The only thing that matters is what you think, if you like them buy them. Mate of mine has found 20 yards off the tee with an R1 which I can't hit for toffee but likewise he does not get on with my 913.
TM use very aggressive marketing tactics which personally I ignore although more than happy to test their gear to see if the claims are true! At the opposite end of the spectrum their is a good article about Mizuno in Golf World this month in which the brand marketing is discussed.
In short buy which works for you and not someone tells you to get.
