Polls up today, gets to our first tee and Baghead pulls out a sleeve of balls. They looked brand new, but I never recognised the sleeve. They were Titliest professional 90 balls.

Cue said jokes about age of said balls. First drive straight down the middle 240 yd, second shot 30" from the cup. First putt and first birdie to Baghead.

Anyway he lost one or two and in the 19th I asked our pro how old they were. He reckons about 2001 and that " back in the day " they were the Titliest balls to play with. The balls before that were the good old Balatas.

Whats the oldest balls you have played/play with.

only started playing in 2006, but found some Dunlop 65 when they cleared the whin bushes at Tain. Prob been in the ground since the 80's at least, played around Nairns 9 hole and Portmahomack with one.

Get some interesting stuff on our driving range when people clear the loft and hit the balls on the range. Had a 1.62 ball come down the shute last week.

The interesting thing is to hit them with modern equipment and see the different fligh you get (or don't).

26 years ago as a junior I saved up pocket money to buy a box of slazenger balatas, I still have some knocking about but they're not going to be played. I've found a few of those professional 90's - good balls!

The Professional was a great ball in it's day, just like the tour balata but you could get 2 rounds out of one......luxury!!

While playing in a stableford pairs comp the other day my playing partner (who's only 18) smashed his straight down the middle to around 240. One of the lads who was with us went to identify his ball and burst out laughing, saying why on earth are you playing with that, his ball was a penfold that his grandad had given him to use up. I'd never heard of it but as I've been playing about a year seemed understandable when he said the ball is probably older than me at 32.

I recently found some Dunlop 65s and Warwicks in the garage, 1.62"

Will be trialing them with the Old School set when I get back from holiday.

Got a dozen of the Professional 90 in the pro shop (and Sergio Aguero' boot)

Sheer durability, well they have lasted Baghead 16 years.

Agueros boot, now that is a thing of beauty. What's the story behind that.

played yesterday and some kids were coming down an opposite fairway and had hit a ball onto ours, which at the time I did not know. Anyway it was dull in colour almost cream. I picked it up and shouted to Baghead asking if it was his. He points to this kid 40 yd away and said " it's his". it was an old penfold with a join line all around the middle. It was older than him. I replaced the ball and walked on, about 100 yd down the fairway felt sorry for him and nearly went back to give him some balls.
