Thinking about trying out a set of Titleist irons. Have seen a set of AP2 712's and a set of 714 CB's for sale locally. Both in good condition and for approx same money

Which would be better in peoples opinion?

I'm leaning towards the AP's as I presume they're easier to hit

Not tried the CBs but at my fitting the fitter said they would give little or no benefit over the APs. That was 712 vs 712 though

It was the fact that the 714's are newer for the same money that interested me but the sensible option would probably be still to get the easier to hit I guess. No option to try out the clubs before purchase unfortunately

I wouldn't say they were easier to hit- they are slightly more forgiving but at a 4.1 handicap you will hit them both the same.

The way I choose now is this..

If I was playing min 3 or 4 times a week, CB's or blades all day long.
once a week on average then I'd game the AP2's.............

Do they bothered have the same shafts, that would be my main consideration.

As others have said, there's probably not much in, especially at your h/c.

The AP2s are lovely irons. CMAC is right that if you're playing once a week, you'd be as well to go with them. If I was playing often enough and well enough to merit a change up from AP2s, I wouldn't bother with the CB, I'd go for MBs.

i was fitted for a cb/mb combo by the titleist mobile van - fitter explained i needed to steer clear of the ap2s as they would be too spinny for me with my downward hammer blow...

I have the 712CB's with Nippon shafts. Prior to that, my irons have had DG S300 shafts. The Nippons are, probably, the nicest shafts I've had, and the CB's are not difficult to hit.
