Here goes folks - my first post and I thought I'd take the opportunity to dive straight in and review the Titleist 909 D2.

If I can start by saying that I need to stand up and confess that I am a Golf Addict. I think I need professional help - I dont have cash coming out my ears, but the most important thing is that my children have clothes and food on the table, but I cant stop buying golf gear. Over the last 10 years I've spent enough for a townhouse in Spain and a car more capable than I already own.

My drivers over the last 3-4 years have been Titleist 983k,983e,905T,905S,905R,907D2, Callaway FT3, Taylor Made 320,340,360, Burner TP etc. You get the picture, I keep confusing the thought that I can actually buy the ability to get the ball in the fairway when in reality the money would be better spent going and getting a lesson from a decent pro.

Yet again I went to the local golf shop and walked in with the view that I wasnt going to get suckered into buying yet another Titleist driver which was virtually the same as all the other Titleist drivers that I had ever bought. Yet again I saw the gleaming bit of black metal and yet again I thought - she's the dog for me.

Today was the first outing with the new 909D2 with Aldila Voodoo Stiff shaft. Hating myself that I'd actually parted with the cash for yet another Titleist driver, I have to say that this is the first one that I have been genuinely impressed with. In the past I've found Titleist drivers not as long as Taylor Made driver's, not as forgiving as Callaway but I really believe that at last they've stepped up to the plate and delivered a great driver with a good stock shaft - which is always a bone of contention for lower handicap golfers.

To start with the Aldila Voodoo as this is really the engine that drives the whole thing. Firstly I was impressed at how stable the shaft felt without at the same time feeling as if I was swinging an iron bar. Secondly the dark burgundy colour with the spiralling graphics around it looked sensational also.

I went for an 8.5 degree Driver as I am sick of turing into the wind and losing distance as I watch the ball climb into the air. The 909D2 bores fantastically well into the wind and the face has an unusally soft feel - which I suppose is some sort of legal trampoline effect working on the face. I'm not going to say I hit the ball 20-30 yards further but the feel and accuracy was highly impressive with good distance being achieved also.

I didnt want to like this driver just so that I could have a go at myself for being so weak as to buying yet another Titleist driver, but currently I am in the honeymoon period and I think this driver may be staying in the bag for a long time. I think Titleist have a winner on their hands.

You are defo in the right place mate, welcome.

So where do you play? What you off? What else is in the bag apart from a new sexy driver.

Get that posted on the webite and you may find yourself with new nike balls or even better some new Nike Irons.

Welcome to the forum, Good read that and good first post.

Tell us, where do you hail from, what figure do you play to and what is your favourite cheese? :D

Just kidding about the cheese BTW, Welcome to the madhouse!

Welcome in- I have considered the same driver but have decided to learn to hit the one I have first.

Best of luck with it though and Happy golfing.

Good post davykyle!

I have to say I do agree with you on the D2, i bought one when I went over to the states last month. I bought it because it looked awesome and when I went on the Launch monitor in the Edwin Watts golf Shop I was hitting it at least 20 yards further! (They made me hit some with my Taylor made r7 to see if I did hit it better)

I loved my r7 but as soon as I picked the D2 up I was in love!!

If anyone is thinking of changing drivers you must give it a go!

Many thanks for the kind welcome guys - I'll get all my details updated as I havent done that yet. I've been a lurker for a while but I think I've been missing out !

If the 909D2 is good enough for Rory Mcilroy - then its good enough for me. I think the D3 will be useful if you play alot of links golf and need to keep the ball down.

Welcome and a great 1st post. Anyone on here who knows me will tell you I have a reputation of being a golfaholic (in terms of practice time but mostly on gear bought) so I know where you are coming from!

I am not after a D3 for the snob value, it just happens that at my last c/f session with a driver, they were recommending a low spin head for my swing, and the D3 is billed as a low spin. The D2, is not as low, but may be fine, I will try them both, although I am drawn to the D3 as it is a neater look.

As i use a cobra driver all the Titleist clubs will look neater to me i do like the idea of the low spinning d3 but i think the d2 will suit my eye better with the more shallower face i hate deep face drivers

Hi Murphthemog

Yes I thought I would go with the D3 also for the low spinning head, but the flight on the D2 has been low with a fairly forgiving head so it has worked out well. That's not to say I wont have a look at the D3 anyway !

That has been some collection of drivers you have used...I bet the golf shop loves you!!

I am really tempted to try out the new Titleist driver as all my other clubs are Titleist but I'm hitting the Ping G10 too well at the moment. If I could guarantee a similar or better strike with the D2 or D3 I would part with the cash and change as I'm that fickle but I'm not aware of any ranges near me with them in to try.

Did you have any favourites in the other Titleist drivers? Any you just did not like?
