My son is fancying one and had a bash at AG with one on Sunday. I am not going to get him a new one, daft price, but I may go halves with him for a second hand club. He liked it but bashing a ball in a net is not the same as on course use.

Anyone have one? What do you think of it? He is thinking of the No. 3.

I have the 3 and absolutely love it. He should obviously go and make sure he can hit it well.

I swapped out my hybrid for it as I needed something a bit lower on our windy track. Plus I didn't hit the hybrid great.

The only downside of it I would say if he's binning hybrid is hybrid is a lot better for hitting out of thick/wet rough

Thanks for the comments. He would keep this and a hybrid. He fancies it for off the tee rather than off the deck or out of the rough. He is a pretty good ball striker and he was very happy in the net at AG, yes I know the tracking is iffy but it felt good to him. He is looking for it to be as you describe, a lower ball flight that runs on well.

I'm a high handicapper and I don't think it's a hard club to hit off the deck... I'd say easier than a hybrid

That's interesting. He hadn't thought of it that way but I will mention it if he gets one. His handicap is heading south, young pup, and his ball striking is one of his strong points.

I love titleist and had a bash with one yesterday.
Im a good ball striker for my 13 handicap and I had 10 attempts with it and fatted pretty much every one of them! Off the tee i was a bit better. I think the club face is too large personally.
I was devastated I couldnt use it. Maybe my ball striking is that good after all....

Had a go with one, flew a bit high for my liking. Hit my MP4 3 iron far better. Tried the 2 and was not a good as my current MP37 two iron for distance, though it did carry a bit further.

Nicer looking than any of the other replacement long irons ive seen.

Not the same club I admit, but I use the Ping Crossover, in a number 4, and it is great of the deck, even better of the tee especially on tight drives, or when the woods are not behaving. nice carry and nice roll. I did go further with the 3 but the dispersion was better with the 4. So if he is not fussed about the brand, might be worth a try as an option?

Re the AG tracking, I think they have the 'course' set up for rock hard, very smooth and downhill with wind behind!

He is not brand fussed but he prefers the look of the Titleist. I couldn't hit either of them but I think the look of the Ping is great and that would be my choice. Each to their own. Thanks for the shout out, it was good advice.

I have the 3 & 4 and I think you should buy them both, what else are dad's for? ;)

I'm contemplating one also, as I prefer my 4 iron to my 23degree hybrid but could do with something that will go 220ish as my 4 will only go 200 hit perfectly. Currently fallen out with my 3 wood.

I have the 2 iron and it's my favourite club in the bag. Averaging 248 yards with this beauty and keeping it on the fairways when off the tee. I don't like hybrids and strike my irons pretty well.

I've got the older one (712 maybe?) and its good. Could pick that up second hand for half the price and id struggle to get more out a new version i think. Although if he's anything like me the shinier option is always better, even if they do perform the same!

I have the 4 iron, and whilst it is easier to use than a normal 4 iron from a full set, I wouldn't say it is easier to hit than a hybrid.
It is still an iron, just made differently. But when miss hit, being hollow like a wood, it does tend to go better than a normal club.
