After being fit for my Ping G25 hybrid it was apparent my irons are very unsuitable for my game, they launch too high and reg is not going to cut it any more. They have served me well in learning the game but its time for change...

I had a hit with the 712 model today (6 iron) and it felt really nice, I always thought I wouldn't be good enough for them but the ball launched eaisly and there didn't seem to be any distance lost. I compared the distance as in between my 7 iron and 6 iron due to the Burners strong lofts.

So next spring the 714 model will be on the list to try along with Nike pro-combos an what ever else catches the eye. At the end of the day the launch monitor will have the final say so if something a little more forgiving is needed then so be it. As for irons to suit HCP I reckon I can easily get down to 14 if not lower when the season starts and I play more comps.

Just thought I'd share my joy of my experience with better players clubs :D

Get the new irons now practice over winter with them ready for new season what's point getting fit at start of season to then practice

Wait til you see the new callawY apex irons. They look the bizz dave. Wayne showed me one of the heads today. They come in a i20 like satin finish so they dont scratch after 2 hits.

Put the 714 AP'2s in play last sunday . have had 3 rounds so fat 36/36/38 pts all with a stone cold putter , had 11 birdie putts but only made 1 in tuesdays 36 pts .. totaly different to my MP32's 1/2 inch longer , stiff shafts . 2degrees flat and grips are a bit (1 layer id say) thicker , nice clubs , last qualifiers nxt weekend so will be tinkering with shot shaping etc after that ..

Yep they are on my ever-growing short list to get custom fit next year. I will have to test the Callaway X hot pro again though just to see if it was a fluke that I was hitting them even better than my current AP2's

Maybe its because they were lighter heads being a cast club , the shafts were exactly the same - DSG300.

Glad that you got on with the AP2, try the dynamic gold shaft(s) before you part with any cash.

Didn't realise the Dufner has these in the bag and won the PGA with them. As good as they felt today that definatly makes me feel like they are beyond me but like I said earlier the launch monitor and its numbers will make the decision for me. I'm also going to hit them off grass before any decisions are made.

Don't rule out Mizuno. I changed my clubs for the start of this season and after extensive testing narrowed my list down to a choice between the 712 AP2's and the Mizuno JPX 825 Pro's. I loved the strike off both clubs, however my decision was made for me by the following factors. 1. The Mizuno's were a full club longer with comparable shafts and 2. The 4 and even 5 irons (carry a utility for 3 iron) were far easier to hit and attempt to shape on the Mizuno's. Hence I went with the Mizuno's and love them, may not work for you but try a swing with them before making your mind up.

I hit a JPX pro when I did a DNA speed test and I really liked it if I remember right the 6 iron went miles. Your post has jogged my memory so yes they will be on the to try list aswell.

A lot of pros are using AP2s or equivalent. There was even one pro using AP1s not so long ago.

Another interested in the Callaway Apex irons but I don't think the OP will struggle with the Titleist. There is a good argument to say get them now and get use to them over the winter and an equally compelling one to say hang fire and try as many as you can. I love to try any new club just to see how I hit them (compared to the marketing hype) and so personally I'd be waiting and trying as many as I could with no preconceptions
