I am playing the Woburn Marquess course next week. Having walked it during the British Masters I know it is tight. Has anybody got any tips for playing it?

Good news it is not nearly as tight as Duchess and Dukes. I walked it from the middle of the fairways at Masters, and it seemed quite open, but long.

I played it last winter on a frozen morning. I don't remember it being that tight to be honest, certainly not as tight as the Duchess. Seem to remember that the greens were fairly undulating but the frost made them even more tricky.

I think its a great course, i absolutely loved pretty much every hole - i think the 1st is the worst on the course. Definitely suits a drawer of the ball.

Lovely course, I certainly wouldn't call it tight. Only difficult drive is the par 5 with a split fairway, I took the tiger line and hit driver. It was too much club and I went through the end of the fairway and had a horrible lie down the bank.

all 'good' golfers do that mate.

Although i got a great lie at the bottom and hit 6iron onto the green :D

Depends on the tee. No course is long off the yellows.

All of the par 5s are reachable by a reasonably long hitter except for 14 which is often into wind when i've played it.

I'd say its actually a very open golf course. so you can give it a crack on most holes.

What tees do visitors play off?

I played it a couple of years ago. At the fork, only aim right if you know you can nail a 200yd shot to the green ;-) Otherwise, use your handicap and go left with a layup.

It's a lovely track. Just go out there and enjoy it. Use whatever shots you get and don't beat yourself up, as it's a tough track. Even though it's nowhere near as tight as the Duchess and Duke, it's still a stern test.

That the 7th? Laying up is for good golfers!

True. Hackers like me just blast at everything :-)

BTW, love the Addington. Should recommend that to the chap looking for advice on Dale Hill. Much nicer track.

Me too, I figured I would learn course management when I get to single figures! It is fantastic although its far from its best, having lots of tee box work at the moment. Going to be great come May. Not sure where you are based but happy to take you for a round there sometime.

in West Sussex, me and another forum member here play there from time-to-time. We'll take you up on that when this weather (and the tee boxes) improve. Thanks!:D

Marquess is a lovely course, one of the nicest I have played.
Don't remember much about the first 4 holes as I played them like a plank, didn't I Bob.... :o:o:o

Going back up there in March on Region3's trip. Really looking forward to it.
Just hope the weather improves a bit!
