Dave Cameron is defending the reputation of Parliament but, for me, he's flogging a dead horse.

The expenses scandal rumbles on, Maria Miller may have gone (as a minister) but remains an MP alongside so many others who robbed the taxpayer. One wonders how many more details have yet to come out.

I think it's time to clear them out, all of them. There may be a minority who are honest and didn't cheat and steal from us and it'll be harsh on them but I think there's only one way to move on.....

At the next general election a simple rule is applied; if you are currently, or have ever been a member of parliament you may not stand for election. We'll get a whole new set of MPs, untainted by the scandals of their predecessors and just maybe they can justify the faith the electorate place in them. The current lot are beyond redemption....

Where do you get the next lot of MP's from - they will all be just as bad

It's a green field, Phil. We're starting again - where would you like to get them from?

Let the military run the country :D

I wouldn't know tbh

They all seem to be cut from the same cloth

And think people don't really vote for the person they vote for the party

It is the only job you pay to get into. I am sure there are or were politicians who went into politics for the right reason but they are soon corrupted by the rest and by their greed for both power and money. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
A cabinet ministers life is a short one, knives have to be avoided at all times from all angles, there is always someone after your position as you once coveted some other Mp's position. It is a game of thrones. Those who live by the sword die by it.

I think that anyone who wants to be an MP should automatically be barred from becoming one :)

In truth, I dont think many people realize how complicated and busy an MP's job is, I certainly wouldn't want to be one

There's the answer..... We trawl internet fora and identify people who've stated they wouldn't want to be MPs and then persuade them to stand.....

I reckon half the problem is the career politician, only in politics to make as much coin as possible. A few more conviction politicians wouldn't go amiss.

Surely it's not too difficult to have an independent body who properly scrutinise and authorise any payments to these parasites!

There we have Fragger for PM - you heard it here first...

God help us!

There is one but MPs have a veto over them and can overrule any decision. i.e Independent committee recommended she pay back £45.000 but MPS cross party reduced this to £6000. Its funny as they always stress the validity of Independent bodys especially when they recommend a £11.000 PA wage rise for MPs.== I bet they don't try to reduce that,= as I am sure in the future they will accept this

The vast majority of MPs do not break the rules on expenses. Some of you posting on here are typical of the modern day neer-do-wells that tar everyone with the same brush. Present company excepted of course

There are 650+ MPs.

A small number have taken significant advantage of the system - a system that was introduced as a way to bypass the PR fear increased salaries would have been. Mine claimed/claims 0 for accommodation - and may not claim for much else either.

The Telegraph was right to investigate/publish the 'scandal' of those abusing the system. I'm undecided as to whether Miller was one of them - as the newspapers haven't provided enough info for me decide. However, from what I've seen and heard from/of her, I don't trust her as far as I could kick her!

There's also no point having an 'Independent Commissioner' if their own members subsequently over-rule it! That's a ridiculous situation!

I believe MPs should be paid 'properly' - linked to a bunch of 'equivalent' roles - and have a set scale of allowances for accommodation/travel, values not variable according to mortgages, depending on their electorate. If they they then choose to live elsewhere, so what; that's something between them and their 'customers'.
