I was on Christmas Island in 1958 as a young 'Lance-Corporal' in 38 Corps Engineer Regiment .
We were part of Operation Grapple and witnessed numerous nuclear tests.
Were we guinea pigs as was later suggested? Who knows ,but it was exciting and was a proper working posting on airfield construction.
Also 5 days R & R in Honolulu and a flight home via San Francisco.
