I know, I know, 61 is an unbelievable score around any course and requires a level of skill I can barely comprehend so why is it that I was slightly shocked to discover that 61 is Tiger's lowest ever competative round?

Given that he is one of the players most capable of really producing long runs of consecutive birdies with the odd eagle thrown in and has monstered some pretty difficult courses I'm a bit surprised that he isn't in the 59's club.

I know his sight is firmly on the majors to try and surpass Nicklaus but will we ever see him shoot in the 50's?

There have only been 28 x 60s and 5 x 59s in PGA Tour history. It doesn't happen that often, even to the very best.

when interviewed the other day he didnt seem too fussed. Said he'd had a 59 on a par 72 course away from the tour so felt he had one and didnt feel the need to do it in tournament, think he values titles and especially majors over one off achievements

Pretty sure he would be happy with four 70's if it meant a W attend of week, I got the impression to he wasn't fussed and it was just a bit of media hype on Friday.

I've heard/read interviews with more than one pro that's been paired with Tiger, that he plays very conservatively compared to other pro's.
If he was well under par, most of the time he's going to be in the lead or very near to it, and I don't think Tiger will chase and go after pins like others do - when he doesn't need to.

I can't remember how many clear he was on the 16th during his 61, but he only had around 90 yards to go needing 2 birdies to break 60. He had a slightly iffy lie and didn't even bother going after the flag because it was only a few paces over the water, he just stuck it past the flag and took his 5.

I think most other pro's in that situation would still go after the flag, with a decent lead, 59 in sight and plenty of holes left in the tournament.

Depends on the course and comp. I suppose, I remember being told Sam Torrance scored a 57 during a exhibition game at Bathgate G.C. and only used irons from the tee. :whoo:

I'm not sure whether he'd have been pursuing the 59 last week and was just trying to go as low as possible. I thought he'd have made a birdie at the last par five and so it shows that it isn't a given at any time

Yeah the guy's crap and I can't see what all the hype is about. After all there are players on here that have done that all be it in total for their golfing career rather than over one round.

We'd all say that after just blowing a 59 by hitting a 90yrd pitch 10yds too far!!!!

Still, I'm sure he will take the win as a consolation seeing that there's still records to be had.
