I'm one of Tigers biggest fans over last couple decades and love watching him play well. However I'm watching this open now with the feeling that his game is well and truly finished at the top level. Its embarrassing watching him play this badly and with the bbc insistent on showing every fat, top, thin and 3 stab that he makes it just makes me believe more and more that he should really think about calling it a day.

His first wedge shot on the 1st was a full on duff and since then he's taken long irons on tees and not even getting close to making a birdie.

This course is at its most benign and scorable and yet he seems a million miles from even making the cut. I guess the back might flare up when the wind blows tomorrow and a 90 could be on the cards.

When you see him in a "Your Golf Travel" advert that's him finished ... No room for Poulter's ego though :fore:

I was in a quiet meeting at Cisco this morning and blurted out "Hmmpf Tiger at 4 over already" The meeting turned into a talk about Tiger woods for about 20 mins lol. Sad to see, but also a shame that the media are concentrating on that rather the excellent performances from others like Paul Laurie.

Kinda agree with the OP.... you'd think he could chop it round in level par even with his eyes closed, there's probably some local school boys who shoot under par more often than Tiger is currently doing. Not sure he needs to work on his swing right now.... just find one that hits the ball!!!!

I thought he looked more ready to accept that he has a lot more work to do to become competitive again (I don't mean that he thinks his score is acceptable but perhaps inevitable) and this will probably help him focus on improving rather than concerning himself what the world is thinking about his scoring/play

As bad as his round was there is also some pedigree in that scoring area, to me the humiliation is faldo +11......... Move aside and let others share the experience. Your time is done!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I seen that. He just looks tired out there. Perfectly respectable +4 from Tom Watson so I don't know where that +11 came from.

Faldo's round is to be expected. Watson, I would estimate, plays double the amount, if not way more than that, that Faldo does and is also way fitter than Faldo (I'm sure that Faldo's back is knackered). Also what side of the draw were the two on?

Fair points made. I think Faldo was out later about 3pm tee off or something. Weather got worse as the day went on I think. Was just a shame to see, as I was a bit of a faldo, woosy, Torrance fan as a kid. All my golfing superstars as a kid are just not as good now and it's a shame to see. We all get older :/

Hi looked a broken man when he put that 135y wedge into the burn. Painful to watch, but I suppose links golf is the true test of golf and the issues with his game are getting even more exposed.
What he says he can do (in press conf), and what he can actually do (on course) differs greatly.
Somewhere in his head he needs to accept this, if he has not already.
