No suprise this but I wish he would stop blaming his back for lack of form ,as Tigers just hanging on to tourney golf surely his retirements imminent...

Its all he has ever done since a kid , the body might be nearing an end but the mind still thinks , if only . ppl at the highest level have a competitive drive , the drive that led to Tiger woods reform the professional golfer from tubby to fit athlete

I agree i think he should retire but can understand his desire for one more big "W"

He's done it all he's achieved everything in golf and gone down in the record books but it looks like he really cant find that form anymore and he's having a problem accepting this, for me he will never be the best ever golfer Jack gets that accolade for me but I think maybe its time for Tiger to bow out chill out and possibly make guest appearances at a few events a year and use his status in other ways in golf with GC design, equipment range etc theres loads of stuff TW can do outside tour golf,he'll always be respected as one of the greatest golfers ever though.

Handled it extremely well imo. Perfect time to announce it so that the media doesn't create some enormous faff just because he isn't ready to play the standard of golf required. All that nonsense would have distracted from the event.

He's done wonders for the game: while I hope he can regain some form I fear he'll do himself permanent damage if he chases the 'new' guns.

I time it would be great to see him on the Senior Tour but that would be a hard pill for such a competitive sportsman as Tiger to accept.

I think it's got to the stage now that people are no longer bothered either way - it's not nice when someone is suffering through injury but golf imo has moved on and golf doesn't need Woods , he did wonders for the game but right now the focus has moved from one person to a whole host of players. For me if he was playing it would ruin the coverage because I know the cameras would only be on him regardless of how he is playing and that for me makes the comp unwatchable- now I know they will show as many different players as possible during the first couple of days then start to focus on the challengers.

People clearly are bothered, this thread shows that - there has also been lots of talk on Social Media, earlier in the week, about the fact he hadn't withdrawn at that point.

Time waits for no man, sad he is where he is as plenty players have been excellent in early 40s but better not there than hacking about embarrassing himself then withdrawing.
With Johnson, Day, McIlroy, Speith, Scott, Stenson etc about mens golf is in very good hands moving forward.
Tiger is now part of golf history. He had a great run for a sportsman.

Tiger is still a top player.

I still hope he gets over the current injuries and gives it some more goes.

It's getting to the stage where it seems Tiger needs Golf more than Golf needs Tiger....
I find it highly unlikely that he will be able to get back to the playing level he was at 10 years ago and, as such, he wouldn't be able to compete with the current best players..Not many Tour Pros improve in their 40's - some have success but few actually improve. Tiger has to improve from where he was before the latest back injury..No Major in quite some time now and he would need to improve his game in order to compete
And at the moment he can't even play.
Pull up a lounger, Tiger. It's time to relax away from the rigours of Pro Golf.....

No he isn't - he hasn't been a top player for 3/4 years now.

Bit of a contradiction. You say no one is bothered and golf doesn't need him yet when he plays the coverage is all about him?

Surely if no one is bothered he'd get zero coverage?

Don't get him started. Every thread almost.

Loads of people I know watched tiger when he came back. People who usually can't be bothered with golf. He is a massive draw.

How do you think a psychologist would find Tiger as a subject?
I have an inkling that in his mind he thinks he's 28, shows many of the denial signs of a mid-life crisis. Probably affected by fame related insecurities too and loss of his dad so can't move on with his life. There's yet another younger divorced blonde he's dating now and doesn't understand or care about the term gold-digger. Can he find happiness beyond golf? Pretty mixed up dude underneath it all perhaps?

I'm glad he didn't try to play because I think Augusta is too much of a stretch for him when his confidence is already at a low ebb. Take time, come back when you're ready. Next comeback might just be the last chance so choose the right moment....

Hardly a blow and I fear that's it for him now. It's taking longer and longer to get back...again and I can't see him ever being 100% fit and able to contend properly. A real shame and I'd like to see him go out with a flourish but not sure that will happen now
