From nowhere, tiger has somehow found the form to lead this tournament!
im delighted for him, and like so many of us am simply mesmerised by the bloke - I'd love him to win.

but........he still seems to be thrashing wildly at lots of his shots , seeming like he is trying to hit the ball as hard as he can.

I think disaster is just around the corner. I desparately hope I'm wrong, but I can the wheels falling off this weekend.

lets hope not! :)

Thrashing or not he's hitting them straight which is impressive. I think he is nudging 40 this coming year and is trying to stay up there with the other big hitters. It certainly looks like it hasn't taken any toll on his back or legs so far so it is good to see him knocking it close from 200+ yards , it'll only give him more confidence as it seems he can do it from the fairway and the semi rough.
I also see the field isn't too weak neither with a fair amount of FedEx and major winners playing this week.

I think Tiger's problem this week is that he has to go for the win.
If he wins, he qualifies for the FedEx playoffs, 2nd place has an outside chance of making it.
The only reason he's playing is to try and make the playoffs
So, come Sunday afternoon, he has to go for it.
And that will probably end up with him falling short.

Well he is3-1 with the bookies. Ten yrs ago from the same position he would have been heavily odds on!
hope he does it, the game needs tiger. The current crop (Rory excluded) are great lads, and really fine men (hark at me, I sound like my dad!) but they simply do not have the charisma of yesteryear champions.

I liked his comment when interviewed after the round. Talking about the approach into one of the greens he said he was lucky because koepka had to play first and hit six iron so tiger knew it was a good 5 iron for him because "brooks is a full club longer than me". Just that he recognised the fact, was happy to admit it and did so with a smile shows that he accepts his days of being the longest on tour are gone.

I believe he's close to getting it right but has struggled to put four good rounds together when it matters so far this year. Maybe it'll change this weekend but the odds are he'll still have at least one bad score this weekend.

I'd be quite happy to see him win and make the playoffs against th odds though!

Not the toughest of courses, just look at who else is in the mix. Tiger should be able to take a win here, but, let's see him do it on a tough course.

If he wins, it takes his tally to 100 and 1 more, its just a step for Tiger towards being competitive with the best in the biggest events.

I want him to win, but if he does I will not be saying YES he is back, because 1 win for Tiger in a weak field is just a step nothing more, he needs to take this step if he is to become a force again, so he wins he MAY be on his way back, but he wont be back.

Clear as mud i hope

I agree, if he can't accept that he isn't the longest, then he can still give the game a good go. He was never the best of the tee in the first place. I'm sure if he could just accept that he just needs it down the middle. He would put less pressure on his iron play and shirt game and then his touch may return. Scrambling almost every hole was bound to put pressure on all parts of his game.

Even if he wins and then falls away again. It has been nice watching him strut a little, smiling more now than ever. And for those who think the game doesn't need him, just look at the crowds that followed him. Plenty of youngsters in them crowds. He's an icon. Him falling away with Rory and Spieth taking over isn't a bad thing. But him somewhat best certainly wouldn't be detrimental to the sport either.

Well thank goodness for this thread or the haters would have nowhere to drag out their standard lines of "the course isnt hard enough" "anyone could win there" "theres no competition this week" "he'll blow up next round"
*sigh*

Personally I feel Golf needs a Tiger and he's a proven major attraction no matter what anyone else thinks. He makes golf more interesting than it is just now and golf needs it before we get a procession of clean cut US College kids all sedately winning in their stride one week and people forgetting their name the next.

Go Tiger, hope you win this one and get to the fedex playoffs

Why is anyone who has a different opinion of Tigers future other than, he will win 19 majors instantly a hater.

I am a huge Tiger fan, but I am not blind to the obvious, this IS a weak field and its only a step to coming back, winning would be great but golfs Messiah has not returned even if he does get it done.

Golf is far more interesting when people aren't focusing just on one player - that's what happens when Woods plays - it's just about him and no one else

I hope he runs away with it.

There may be too much focus on him but that's not his fault. Take it up with the broadcasters. And like it or not, the greatest golfer of his generation falling to the depths he has and then possibly coming back is a story, and a good one too. So he's going to get attention.

Bottom line is that he's still the biggest name in golf, certainly to those who are not avid followers. It's much better for the game if the biggest name is at the right end of the leaderboard and playing well.

Tiger on song is a sight to behold and I hope he gets back to a point where he can compete again.

I'd like to see him win.
Would be good seeing Tiger challenge again.
Is it really a weak field??
Some pretty big names are on the leaderboard.
