Tiger Woods pulls out of Arnold Palmer & is Masters doubt

This has just come up on the BBC sports page.

[h=1]Tiger Woods pulls out of Arnold Palmer & is Masters doubt[/h]Defending champion Tiger Woods will miss this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational and says he is a doubt for next month's Masters in Augusta.
The world number one announced on his website that he has a back injury.
"It's too early to know about the Masters, and I will continue to be evaluated and work closely with my doctors," Woods said.
The Masters is the first major of the year and begins on 10 April at the Augusta National Golf Club.
More to Follow.

Certainly seems that his retirement from one competition and struggling in the final round of the next wasn't a put on as so many thought.

Dont think he is faking it, I think he is trying to get fit for The Masters and if he puts his back out in the Arnold Palmer then his chances of making The Masters look slim.

Id say a wise choice

Mod Edit---2 threads started simultaneously on same subject, so merged the 2 together

I hope he makes the masters. Will give it until halfway through day 2 until the back flares up

Think it's getting easy to spot when Woods back is hurting

Scoring well = back ok

Scoring badly and no chance of winning = back hurting

Think it's good news he isn't playing - that way the cameras can show all the other talented golfers on display.

Or maybe, just maybe. Back hurting= massive difficulties in performing hence scoring badly.........

I am not sure why he would fake it to save him playing in a comp he has won many times before. I take this at face value. He has a bad back and wants to get better ASAP, especially with the Masters coming up. What's not to believe?

Don't bother Papas. The Tiger haters find it impossible to be objective when it comes to this subject. When he pulled out he was faking, now he withdraws and is a doubt for the masters and he's still faking

Who`s said he has a "bad back"? Tiger himself, who just happens to be a lying, cheating womaniser.

If he can lie and cheat on his wife and family, he can damn well feign a bad back pretty easily.

Imo of course;)

+1 to this, couldn't really care less about the tiger back, but when he plays I get sick and tired of the irksome tv coverage showing him spitting, cussing or going for a pee rather than covering a great golf shot by 'another' golfer.

My thoughts exactly, he's been doing this for years form goes injury returns.Tigers so up on himself that he cant face up to and deal with lack of form so uses injury.
Excuses.

Meh he wont do much anyway. I feel sorry for him though and hope he comes back strongly.

Maybe he should learn the single axis swing. Poster child for not having so called experts mess about with your swing.

+1 on seeing other shots rather then Tiger ambling up a fairway and taking plenty o' practice swings. We might see some play from the top 10 in the field, not top 2 & Tiger!

Seems like a sensible move on Woods part. Whether its an injury or just a loss of form, taking the time out before the Masters gives him time to do what he needs to do to be ready for Augusta. I have no doubt he'll be teeing it up there. I actually hopes he plays well as I like to see all of the worlds golfers competing well and making it a thrilling major. Hate these processions where one guy is miles. Give me a nail biter everytime. Not sure Woods will be in the mix come the back nine on Sunday though

Tournaments are worse off without Woods playing, that's for sure. Hope all other mentions of players pulling out through injury get the same attention from the 'faking it brigade'. That Paul Casey was sure out for a long time recently ;)

Its a shame, i am by no way a tiger "fan" however its hard not to respect the guy with his trophy cabinet! Like a few have pointed out, hopefully for now at least the US producers will be forced to show more players, which for us a viewers is fantastic! I think Homer said it above, i want him at the masters, i want him and ten other guys in the mix on Sunday night, Then Russell Henley to win it at 150/1, but hey! I hope the time off gets him physically and mentally ready for augusta, the tournament without him would not quite be the same..
