Tiger not playing in masters!!!!

I think it'd be interesting to see him outside the pressure of competition. Probably too soon for him to try when he's going to be back amongst it in a few weeks or months but I certainly hope he gets involved in this capacity at some stage in his career.

Agree

Hopefully the rumours are true and the personality hidden behind the PR/Sponsorship wall is as promised and once his competitive (and sponsored) days are over it'll be allowed out!

I disagree. Tiger's media image was carefully crafted by Nike and his management. Have you not seen the black and white nostalgia pieces with words of advice coming to him from his father? All the American work ethic and overcoming challenges?

About 10 years ago, the word was that the plan was for Tiger to win all the majors, have his inner city development charity, have a blue chip set of sponsors and clients, have his pretty blonde wife and his cubs, then when his game dipped he would move into politics, run for Congress or Governor of California and maybe eventually the White House.

So it remains to be seen if he can resume this plan. Politicians number many serial philanderers amongst their number, and money always speaks louder than ethics in US politics.

But it would be a major mistake not to realise his media image was cynically constructed. Then when it blew up, the explosion was all the more louder because so much of it was a lie.

never heard that before- any evidence to support it?

You got some stalkers phil??? I seem to remember snelly had the same fan club:o

Tiger is finished, he'll not win another major....said it:thup:

It's elective back surgery because he knows he's playing like a chopper !

Fan Club? Nice! Hopefully I can go to their next meeting at their Wetherspoons of choice. :)

I will say it too - Tiger won't win another major. Furthermore I am glad as I cannot warm to him, despite his golfing talents. Spitting, scowling, club throwing, swearing, no tipping, living a lie, and you could go on with a list like this but in simple terms, he isn't a likeable person, certainly not to me anyway. That said, I don't hate him. That would be ridiculous.

On a related note, I am not a huge fan of anyone that uses the term "hater". It is transatlantic "therapy-speak" and irritating. American cultural imperialism at work. Anyone who uses the term just sounds like Serena Williams to my ears - it is a favourite term of hers.

Marginally better than the phrase "gaming" in relation to golf clubs I suppose but neither are the Queens English and quite appalling really.

Agreeing with you far too much lately

Augusta takes years to learn before you can win it

Schwartzel won it 2nd time he played it
Bubba won it 4th time he played it
Tiger won it 3rd time he played it
Zach johnson won it 3rd time he played it
Mike Weir won it 4th time he played it

which would suggest that it doesn't take years before you can win it but I do understand your point - experience at Augusta helps you, doesn't hinder you etc...

Tiger wants to try playing a monthly medal in April in Wetest, windy, West Wales with one previously dislocated shoulder, twinges in every part of the body following 20 odd years playing rugby, a week of proper full time work, a nagging Mrs blah blah blah. He needs to take some MTFU pills get on with it and live up to his reputation as a great golfer!

I would much prefer he were playing - whether he won it or not it makes the spectacle more enthralling for me if he's involved on the final day. I know he has his haters and the reasons why but I can't help but just take him as the best golfer I've seen on tv and it's a shame for me he's out.

Just out of interest I looked at GolfWRX thread on Tiger injury and it was quite surprising.

16,500 views since yesterday, nearly 500 replies and hardly an argument or personal insult amongst them (haven't read all 500).

They said a lot of the same stuff about possibly not winning again, some jokes, some sarcasm, some discussions but all done quite respectfully towards each poster.

Way to post USA buddies  :whoo:

And on your 'related note' I too dislike hearing the 'hate' word used freely and unthinkingly other than in a conversational sense - when it is generally OK as a way of adding stress to a statement. Though I don;t see it as an Americanism.

'Hate' is a very strong emotion and not actually one that I have any real acquaintance with as I can honestly say that there is nothing, nobody and nowhere that I actually hate. I certainly pull my children up when they use it in reference to others.

So do I hate Tiger? - do I even dislike him? - of course not. I can't be bothered with him, and find some of his ways and attitudes somewhat undesirable and distasteful. But that's probably the extent of it. And because of that I won't be missing him not playing in The Masters.

Must be the exception to the rule. Any time I have popped on to a US site such as PGATour.com and there is a Tiger thread running it invariably descends into a foul-mouthed torrent either from supporters or dislikers. Makes this forum seem positively genteel.
