Lots of posts about the Masters, the shirts he will wear, the odds on him winning/making the cut. Still an absolute plonker with no respect for most of the other players and fans. Golf ambassador he is not. I know that some of my fellow forumers are blinkered in thinking that being the No.1 is what matters most, at all costs. Absolute tosh. He has his fame (or infamy), he has his personal fortune, but unfortunately he has no integrity...and never has. Will he change? I seriously doubt it. When he packs it in, will he be given the same reception as Jack on the Swilken Bridge a few years ago, or the reception that Seve will undoubtedly get this year at the end of the 4 hole Champions Challenge? Not in my house.

I see no difference between Tiger Woods and any rock star you care to name... they can have as many groupies as they like, I don't see what the difference is just because he hits a ball. I take it you don't like music either?

In 30 years time I'd like to applaud him on the Swilken bridge... with him standing just behind me :)

All the people that dont like tiger must never have made a mistake i their lifes which quite frankly amazes me.

He thought he was invicible and was proved wrong and if he is lucky he will escape with his marriage but at least he is trying to put things right unlike some other sports/music stars that carry on playing away.

He is the best golfer ever period if you think he is the only one on the course that gets angry and spits then your mistaken as they all do it but tiger is just in the limelight more.

I NEARLY made a mistake once. Does that mean I don't have to like Tiger?. I'm not a great fan of Tiger, never really was but I do think his golf speaks for itself. The greatest golfer to lift a club.

If you put someone on a pedestal they always fall off it. Who made Tiger out to be a saint? The media. Why did they do it? To make money off of his back. He was never anything more than a normal guy with a lot of talent in a particular sport, unfortunately once the ad men get their paws into you they you are doomed to a life of a monk, just a puppet on a string. Yeah you make money but you cannot spend it like other guy's of a similar age for fear of being a show off playboy millionaire. I feel sorry for him as I do many prodigies such as Michael Jackson who lived their life in the media glare with every word and action scrutinized and criticized.
Why cannot people just leave him to be what he is, a very very good pro golfer.

I want to be a monk....

I've got no arguement with you there Duffer.

I just can't understand the sycophantic hero worship that so many so called grown men on this forum display. Ok, so he might be a good golfer. It doesn't make him a great man - one to be idolised.

Maybe some people need to grow up a bit and worry about the more important things in life.

Have you seen his golf???

That is something to idolise this is of course a Golf Forum

thats what matters to me not the other stuff.

Drawboys spot on.

At the end of the day its about the golf for me and thats it. I'm only interested in how he plays when he rocks up Magnolia Drive. If he has his A game he'll be in the mix but anything less and there are lots of pretenders to his crown. What he does away from the course doesn't bother me.

I have made some huge mistakes that were nearly very costly so I'm certainly no saint. I admire him for his ability to move a golf ball from A to B in fewer shots than everyone else a lot of the time but I've never admired the petulance, swearing and club throwing that has sometimes gone with it. I was never that interested in his private life before all this came out and even less so now. Let the golf be the measuring device here. Will he be good enough on the day

That's the point HJS. One can admire him for his ability to win tournaments, but a lot of people seem to admire, or excuse, his failings on the course just because of his golfing prowess.

Just a quick thought. Just supposing that in 30 years time there were 2 golfers with exactly the same tournament record, wins, 2nds, top 10 etc. One was Woods and the other was, for sake of arguement, Nicklaus. Would these Woods worshipers still say that he was the greatest ever?

No! I thought not.

A guy on the Golf Magic site posted this up the night before last. It gets my vote as "post of the year"...

"I really dont care about El Tigre and his 14+ mistresses, whether his wife loves him or hates him or whether his kid, kids or whatever or who ever's they are, love Daddy or think him an arrogant ***. What I do care about is the great game of golf that we all play and love, is being dragged down to some media circus, that sycophants to the great god cash cow, and has lost the spirit of what the game is really about - substance, integrity and commitment. Tiger is about the worst role model one could find, he is petulant, arrogant, he cheats on his family and when playing golf, he doesnt like the game much just does it for the money, and while making himself maga rich he scowls, curses and spits his way through his working day.

No, I dont feel priviledged to be living at the same time time as him, or witnessing his successes. No, I am not envious or jealous of him, or any other person in the limelight. No, I really am not missing something important. He is a cheat, he is a total prick, and hopefully one day his performance boosting substance abuse will come to light and he'll be struck from the record books.

Its a travesty that he is compared to Hogan, Nicklaus, Watson, Nelson, Jones and Snead. He isn't fit to shine their shoes.

The media would have you believe that golf IS Tiger. Its not, never was, and never will be".

I think we’ve covered all the Tiger stuff………………until he comes out to play. Then we’ll get the “I told you so” brigade…………that’s even if he wins, just misses out, just gets in for the weekend or misses the cut. We’ll get all the smart ass people one way or the other.

I don’t care…….he’s back and it will be the biggest golfing event since…..since…..since……since…….ever.

I agree.

Smiffy I don't agree with one word of what that other guy posted. Tiger is the best, the standard of the competitors tells us so. Nicklaus has a fantastic record but the scenario is no different to those that say Fangio is/was better than Schumacher, different people different times and Tiger is without doubt the top of the pile, whether he's like or disliked is of no consequence, he's a winner at the game of golf.... I'd have to give him my fiver too

I just find it amusing that all the Tiger haters feel the need to talk about him at every given opportunity and let everybody else know how much they dislike him.

If you don't like him that much, why do you feel the need to constantly reaffirm it? There is no rule that you need to comment on every tiger related thread....

You don't like him, WE GET IT.
