Tiger guaranteed Ryder Cup spot

Tiger's not a great Ryder Cup player, he's a great player. His performances at event have never been dominant. Why should he be guaranteed a spot?

Because he's a great player, and still currently world no1. He'll probably still be there or abouts come Ryder cup. So an obvious pick if not qualified.

I agree with the article. A fit and in-form Tiger is an asset to their team (despite his poor record).

But considering he may hardly swing a club between now and the Ryder Cup it's a bit daft to guarantee him a place now with no idea how he'll be playing then.

He's qualified, or very likely to, so why the issue?

He's down in 45th place at the moment in the US standings.
To qualify he needs to play - he ain't playing!
And when he does he has to perform to qualify.
He's nearly 2m points behind Harris English in 9th.

Tiger has his work cut out to qualify.

And if Watson wants to pick him then I think it's great as he doesn't generally play well in the RC.

thats t's a fair point, but. If your only the final 9 in the deciding match, would you rather be against English or Woods?

Depends on who he's playing...

Vs most of the Europe side I'd back us to get a half at least.
He didn't overpower Molinari last time.....

Of course all this assumes he will be fit enough to play.
It says in the article that it can take a year to get over the sort of Op he had......
Not saying it will but if he doesn't start hitting balls until early September it's going to be difficult to justify picking him over, say English who will have been playing all year.

Great news for Europe if he is in - the only time US has won the Ryder cup since 99 was when Woods wasn't playing in 08
