Tiger gone ?

If that's what he said then it's pretty worrying and sad, for him and for golf.

I don't think I can remember him speaking so negatively and downbeat.

Yeah it sounds like he's pretty down about things (understandable)

Hope he gets fit enough to play again even if that means he's playing just for the love of the game

But will playing for the love of the game be enough for him?
Is Tiger going to be content as a Journeyman?

Let's face it, he's 40 this month. Ok not over the hill age wise but look at the other "older" players. How many of them have had these serious back issues and continued playing into their forties..?
Not sure, but I'd wager not many.
3 procedures on the same point of his back doesn't bode well - you have to ask why the first one didn't work, let alone the second.
All he can do at the moment is walk, he's not even putting.

I think he should call it a day now. His body is letting his mind down. And even if he does recover enough to play again do people really want to see him hacking around, missing cuts, shooting high 70's and 80's..? Even the famed Tiger Steel mind looks like its made of plastic judging by the interview.
Is that a fitting end to, arguably, the G.O.A.T, certainly the greatest of his time.?
Time is against him. The only thing he hasn't done is beat Jack. That isn't going to happen, even the most ardent Tiger fan has to admit that now. With that prize gone, what's left to play for.?

Retire gracefully

It's gonna be tough for him after all the injuries and as much as I'd like to see him back at the top I just don't see it, his body just seems too fragile.

Golf has always been about winning for Tiger, especially majors, and if he can't compete for those, it's hard to see him continuing, which would be a real shame.

I hear what you're saying

The interview seemed so despondent I think first job will be can he get fit enough to practice and play non competitive golf pain free, which was kinda what I meant by playing for the love of it (I'd hate to hear that I couldn't ever swing a club anymore)
After all here's a guy that can get a guaranteed tee at any time on any course anywhere on the world, there's a lot of fun still to be had if he can play

If and when he can do that he can decide if he can possibly compete as a pro

Think the pursuit to catch up with the young guys over the last 5 years has finally taken its toll

Hopefully he can play again but dont expect him to challenge for anything major again

Wouldnt want to see hiim in a bad way

All sportsmen have a finite career, whilst not a tiger fan he has excelled more than 99.9999% of all other golfers, Jack Nicklaus excluded. Even injury free at 40 after 20 years at the top is a fine career. he should retire as 20 th spot in a workaday tournament won't do it for him, he has nothing left to prove, go gracefully

Watching the interview I was immediately struck by the fact that he looked heavier, which is understandable if he can't exercise. He seemed very downbeat which I don't think I have seen before when he has talked about his injuries. He has always said he will be back better and stronger, but not this time. Now he says he has "nothing to look forward to". He also said there is no time schedule for nerves and I may be wrong but I don't think he mentioned nerve problems in his back before.
Its not looking good, but let's wait and see and hope.

If Tiger was a nicer, more personable guy there wouldn't be a person involved in golf who wouldn't acknowledge him as the best golfer of all time, save for the nostlagia crew who will never say a current player is the best.

A world apart for such a long time in an era of much more competitive golf and even through the damage to his body (how he must regret the marine style training now) he still competed when in extreme discomfort that would see most people stay at home.

The best the game has seen and we should all be thankful for the way he raised the profile of the game.

This is a social media world, how man face book birthday wishes do you get instead of calls and texts

I know what you mean, just my personal bugbear with folk having to be seen doing/saying yyz rather than just doing it, just a bit of sycophant in most of them

No facebook et al for me though

It's a shame where Tiger is nowadays.. After all of the scandal years back and now plagued with back injuries and not able to compete at the top level.

I would have loved for him to be able to call it a day when he was ready and to hole out his last putt to a massive crowd on the end of a perfect round, alas it doesn't seem like that is going to happen.

Never predicted Tiger going out with a whimper but it very much looks that way now.

On the plus side he grew the game globally, put up the second best career record in history and made watching golf seriously exciting for a few years. He owes us nothing and I hope he finds some dignity in retirement and can adopt a new role in life he's genuinely happy with.

I think it will take a few years before we fully realise quite how amazing this guy was. His achievements over the years (2000 and 2005) were ridiculous.

as a 28yo, who has idolised him ever since I got into golf, i am so pleased to have seen him play. In years to come i look forward to showing my boy the things that tiger did.
