he's tweeted 'decision made, big announcement tomorrow"

and tm have also said "big news being announced tomorrow at the pga show"

I think it's more likely just a driver/woods deal atm. It would be interesting if he did buy them though. Do you think tiger signing with TM even on a club deal will move more TM products?

Why are taylormade selling up?

From what I can see they seem to be the most popular club on tour, especially with their woods. Also playing club golf most people I see have at least some taylormade in their bag.

Not a chance, don't forget he was with Nike and they have pulled out, cannot see a single reason why he ( with his name) could turn around TM when he could not with Nike.

They're not, they are owned by Addidas who want to sell both TM and Adams because they want out of the golf equipment line.

He couldn't do it alone with Nike, but Nike was never really seen as a golfing brand of equal quality. Nike were always fighting that. I would say especially in the early days, the only reason people bought Nike clubs was because of tiger. There will always be tiger homers and with nikes market share up for grabs, where ever tiger goes will get that crowd

Are TaylorMade struggling?

They shouldn't be, their products are excellent. If they're not doing well they need to change their commercial approach. Not something tiger could realistically help with.

I don't think tiger will be buying them (why would he?!), but he might well use their woods.

tiger woods recently said that he wanted to get into a golf business venture. perhaps he's looking to the future as his body has got a shelf life

Or maybe he carried them, but once injured and out of the limelight Rory wasn't a big enough star to take over from him?

i think tm are doing well without his name, but I can't imagine any golf brand would do worse with him attatched to it.

Their profits have been falling each year, and the % of Adidas business that Taylormade made up was very small

Both Adidas and Nike have said they want to go back to their core businesses and sports where there is crossover in terms of product technology. Golf is too much of a standalone sport in terms of clubs so the return in comparison to the outlay is not enough for them. They will still make clothes and shoes as both are experts in those fields and the crossover tech exists there.

In simple terms, and these are not based on actual figures, for every pound that Adidas put into TM they get 105p back. For every pound they put into shoes they get 140p back. Therefore they have decided to concentrate on the more profitable side. Golf still made money but not enough.

Exactly. Which is why I was asking if TaylorMade is actually struggling, Adidas wanting out indicates it's not as profitable as other things they do, but doens't mean it isn't still profitable.

I believe it is still profitable so someone should take it on. As people have said, they seem to have some great products out there, the brand is strong. Just not Adidas strong.

Tiger being involved even if it is just as a contracted player would make the brand a more attractive proposition. A lot of people slate him, but he's one of the few players that shift product. Nike wouldn't have a fraction of the market share they had without him

That might well be the case, but if the product was class leading ( and TM and Nike in my views are not) then it would sell and be profitable. Don't know who the
" figureheads" are at Ping, Titliest, Callaway etc. But they seem to be doing well without a Tiger name. Why, because the products are class leading.

I would say TM are class leading in metal woods. Maybe not irons but definitely woods
