And what I said 22 days ago was not wrong!

Since that 81 (old PB now) with a handful of lost balls I have had a few downs and a few ups, breaking my handicap over 9 a few times.

I have had a good week, lost to a guy in the knockout who played VERY good golf yesterday and had three very solid range/practice sessions prior. I capped it all off with my first round under 80 on a par 69 or greater course.

43 points, only coming second to a guy who's in top form, winning 2 weekends in a row, by his own admission he should have been off 9.

My new handicap is 11... GULP!

That back nine must have taken some balls. Lovely looking card.

What's the reasons behind your success?

I don't recall the back 9, all adrenaline! I do remember standing on the 18th, an uphill par 4 into the wind, ~410. The only thing to hit was a driver... I put it to 120 yards out!

The secret? Irons off short par 4 tees and a V-Easy :)

Define 'short par 4s' for your course please!!! Also, how far can you hit an iron?!

Anything under 350 I usually turn to my 3 iron.

Two examples:

9th, 330 and I nearly always hit a 3 iron to around 90-110 yards.
17th downhill ~340 and its usually a 3 iron to around 130. Today I hit a 4 iron to 130ish.

My course is running (and pretty much does all year round) so a long iron can really take advantage of that.

340-390 I usually pull out a 3 wood or my 2 hybird. Driver only comes out when necessary.

I was striking the ball so well today it took me 7 holes to take advantage of it, I hit a few a bit too well around holes 4-7 and it cost me.

Excellent forum yardages

Thanks all for your nice comments, just raised a glass (or three) to PBs and hopefully my 3rd best round of the year (club champs in 2 weeks).

That's a tidy looking card shame about the double on par 5.

SI 1 and I put my 1st tee shot in the water due to poor alignment, played the rest of the hole lovely.

I don't feel I left a single shot out there in getting 77!

I cut the corner with a draw on a right to left dogleg with the fairway dry and running. Drive was only about 270 but felt 300+ when I was +5 gross standing on the tee!
