One of the golf societies I belong to is holding a 3 club challenge on an 18 hole par 3 course with holes ranging from 80yds to 130yds. I have never done this before so could do with some advice on club selection, I am not a long hitter (I hit my pitching wedge about 92yds).

Assuming it's not 3 and a putter, based of your distance I'd go:

8 iron
Pitching Wedge
Putter

Would have to open the face on the PW if you needed to play bunker shots etc but should be able to hit clubs to all of the yardages with those three.

take a putter. there will be a few clever ones who try to putt with a wedge but they'll be the ones afterwards moaning about missing a truckload from 2-5 feet.
take the club you need to play the longest hole comfortably (7 or 8iron?).
take the club you use for delicate shots around the green / bunker shots etc. (Sand wedge)
done!

Sounds like fun!

Driver
5 iron
8 iron

Putt with the 5 iron, the increased distance will help you massively off the tee.

Well, Putter would always be first selection! Some might say that you could use a rescue or 3-wood, but it's just so important to putt well imo.

The other 2 depend on the distribution of lengths slightly, but I go for 1 that plays the max - 130. You can always take something off for the shorter holes, or actually go past the pin - 10 yards past is almost certainly still on he green.

Then probably PW (maybe 9) as that should cover the short ones and you are likely to be able to get out of bunkers with it.

Practice bunker shots with your selected lowest club though!

errr.... It's a par 3 course :)

My choice still stands ;)

Haha only skim read the post - apologies! In that case, it's fairly easy - 7i, pw, putter probably. Try it on a full course someday, putting with a 5 iron is fun!
