.... kick the wardrobe when you get up in the middle of the night. Verily did he say unto them... by eck that smarts a tadge. My little toe is bigger than my big toe, and is a lovely shade of aquamarine with delicate pastel shades of rouge and sunflower yellow.

HID suggested cream, and I foolishly asked if double whipped would be best. Subsequently, she's offered to grind her heel into it using a twisting motion...

don't bother with a+e.

I went with exactly the same issue, they looked and said, yes, its broken take some painkillers and rest it..

Nothing else to do with a toe... Fair point really...

If it is broken, there's not usually a lot they will do unless it's proper mangled.

make sure you keep your foot raised on footstool etc to get swelling/bruising to come out into your foot. Otherwise it will throb like a gud un.
thing is we have all done it but usually got away with it.

Broke toes often playing footy, no point going to a&e as they'll do diddly.

If you're up and about strap it (if you can) to the toe next to it, protects it a bit and makes it a bit more bearable walking etc

Is flipping sore though!!

Ignore above. Work in a hospital and have experience in orthopaedics. Get it checked out in case you're the one time it does need attention.

Not wishing to take the thread off topic but is this not exactly what the NHS are trying to avoid!? People flooding a&e with "minor" ailments?

I went the first couple of times and was told there was nothing they could do.....few years ago now right enough.

A potential break is certainly not a minor issue and only a doctor can decide if it needs treatment or not. Yes, the likely hood is that they'll strap it up at most but what if there was a break into a joint or tendon/ligament damage, it could need surgery.

You pay your tax, so go to A&E as is your right and get peace of mind.

Totally agree with this!

You pay your tax, so go to A&E as is your right and get peace of mind.

But disagree with the apparent 'reasoning' behind this. That reasoning IS one of the reasons why A&Es are full up. A better reason would be 'It's a potentially large issue, so go...'

Agree with kellfire, if it is mangled you will be told what you don't want to hear re treatment and it will be a royal PITA.
however if it is broken but not that bad, then it may well be just a neighbour strapping job.
BUT only the Quack will know what to do once he has had a look at an X-Ray and last I heard they never did home visits with the X-Ray machine so it's a trip to the A an E.
Daughter did exactly the same, left it three days and I sent her to A an E it was broke but they just strapped it. It's now healed and bent like a 2nds monkey nut. how ever you dress it up going to A an E gives you peace of mind.

My boss broke my toe in work. I was standing behind him showing something on the screen and he wheeled the chair towards the printer and straight over my foot. A&E said same as others. Rest and painkillers. Cost him a few beers and a curry as compo

I did similar last year and ignored it... strapped it up and foolishly battled through the pain and continued to play golf, albeit with painkillers.

Turned out I had broken it, and the broken bone has since set incorrectly; on hindsight I should have got it checked out as it now gives me some gyp in the mornings.

What is a 2nds monkey nut?

A double peanut in its shell but bent, "monkey nuts" there called, but normally there straight, in this case coz there bent it's a 2nds. That's what her toe looks like now.

4 or 5 days after she had her toe confirmed as broke, she was involved in a foot race to catch a burglar in Sheffield. She is as fit as a butchers dog. She said even the fat uns were leaving her standing as she was in agony with her toe whilst trying to run.
