I read with horror in the Sunday Times yesterday that at Merion, host of the US Open this year, they allow spikes in every room of the clubhouse. Also, get this, the womens section is given full and equal status! And the oldest member is a woman:eek:

Well I was shocked at such blatant political correctness gone mad. What next, will we be giving them the vote??

Anyway I have written to Peter Dawson to implore him to ensure no such 'trendy hippy liberal' thinking occurs over here at courses that will stage one of the most high profile and profitable golf tournaments in the world, and also at the R&A, the ruling body for golf in much of the world. Think of the message this would give the world about the game of golf and it's place in modern society?? And I between you and me I am quite hopeful on this one.

I mean, just take a minute to think of the consequences. If those touchy feely lefty liberal attitudes takes hold it could mean that some golf clubs that are deemed good enough to host one of the prestigious tournaments in the world and are therefore by definition, a benchmark for all that is good about golf, will no longer be able to exclude over 50% of the population of becoming members!! Which would be a sad day indeed :( And as we all know, the next step after that is probably the collapse of modern society as we know it. Stay strong everyone, stay strong.

Aye - but did you also read that they can't were any that have just been out on the golf course and that they musty be polished and shiney.
