I was really pleased to read the articles from Mike Harris and Bill Elliott about raising awareness for Prostate Cancer. This forum and the magazine certainly has a large captive audience and is the ideal place to make more men aware.

Having been a sufferer myself - diagnosed in 2011 and going through the treatment and coming out the other side, with a PSA reading of virtually undetectable level. It's great to see initiatives like this and can only benefit potential sufferers.

Adding to what Mike and Bill have already said - typically men of 50 and over should be checked, but more and more men of under 50 are being diagnosed now. So it might be wise not to wait until age 50 as early detection is crucial to having the best chance of getting to grips with this disease.

I did have a look at the Seniors Open website but could not find any info regarding PC awareness. But of course that could have been down to my poor navigational skills!

If you're reading this Bill, maybe we could meet up for a game sometime and discuss our similar ailments.

Although PSA levels aren't an absolutely fail proof indicator, it's definitely worth having your level checked annually. That way, if it changes, you'll know to get a prostate examination.

A colleague of mine was in exactly this situation. He knew what his PSA level had been for a few years and 2 years ago it had increased. He was diagnosed with PC but it was caught early enough and he's now clear.

This is exactly why it's so important to be checked out.

It was the Captain's charity last year and we have a member who went for a check, only after reading the stuff the charity left around the clubhouse and was diagnosed with it. Early detection and treatment has gone well. He's said if the captain had chosen another charity it would never have entered his head to go and get it checked.
