Folks, i'm not asking this question out of pure self indulgence but because i'm still ambitious as a golfer and would appreciate some advice.

So far in 2016 i've played three medal rounds and had three cuts. 0.3, 0.6 and 0.2 taking me from 12.7 to 11.6. My question is , When is the time that the powers that be take consistent reasonable/good play into account and apply an additional handicap decrease ??? Is there a standard trigger for this or is it a discretionary thing ? Can I , as a player, request it ?

I know that someone on here will have the answer !!!!

If you can get an ESR Exceptional scoring reduction, if you have 2 rounds that add up to 9 under within a certain space of time, and that's about it.

The HC committee won't put in an additional decrease - the software does it it all. It's all software driven now and the committee can't just decrease you unless in the annual review.

Thanks for you responses guys. Guess i'm getting a bit too optimistic. As patricks148 says i'll just keep plugging away and see where it takes me and not get ideas above my station.

You can request a lower HC, just not a higher one!

You can request but HC committee can't change your HC unless there are any exceptional circumstances - any HC changes must be done with qualifying scores or annual review
