Took me ma an pa down to Southampton this morning so they can go on there cruise tomorrow.3 and a half hours to get there. Going down and looking at some of the traffic jams goin north and am thinking unpleasant thoughts. Left Southampton at 12.45, motorway out of Southampton to Winchester, rammed solid, ? A34 near Oxford and Abingdon rammed. M40 rammed, A43 Towcester rammed, A 5 detour to junction 16 rammed. M1 bloody solid from junction 16 to 27 with the odd free flowing break. Got in the house at 6.15.
In the olden days me dad could drive from Mansfield to Horndean in a ford Anglian in 4 hours. Bloody roads and amount of traffic on them is stoopid and it ain't getting any better.
How on earth any brain dead politician can think that spending billions on HS 2 is better spent than sorting out our roads is beyond me.
when I got outta the car I thought someone had pinched me legs, me rssss is killing me and by junction 25 on the M1 I was nearly drinking me own tiddle. Not me best of days.
Finished off by having a soak in the bath with two grandkids.

Too many cars on a limited road network that is mostly running at full capacity. Which means any accident or incident will usually last to massive delays. Not much you can do about it really, if you build more lanes they will get filed up quickly enough.

If it's anything like the M25, building more lanes will just result in more empty inside lanes.

I hate driving these days. It is tedious torture in the SE of England and I refuse point blank to even contemplate driving anywhere near central London.

As a nipper I used to love driving but nowadays I genuinely wouldn't care if I never drove even one more mile.

I dream of life in a mansion flat in W1, travelling everywhere by cab, tube or hire car, if I ever need to go out into the sticks.

Done quite a bit of mileage on the network in the last month and I don't recall going at normal speed for more than 10-15 minutes without having to slow to a crawl for 5.....
I know it's holiday season but Jeez it's getting to be a pain...

I love driving when I am drivin, started a blog about good drivin routes and mentioned a couple, drove a small part of the wild Atlantic highway in Ireland (850km) and loved every minute of it. First traffic jam of that holiday was coming out of East Midlands airport to the M 1.
Today was probably a one off but flippin Eck it was proper stupid.

Dont know what everyone is complaining about, it's a symptom of our wonderful population explosion that is so good for the country and our wellbeing

That's just not right.

Nah they loved it, flippin bubbles everywhere, bathroom wet through with water and young Layla tash leaving a no1 there. This morning spent last half an hour blowing bugles, am seeing stars.

I hate driving too these days. Partly the constant traffic issues on any A roads (try to avoid those day to day) but mainly because you see the worst of human behaviour after being in the car for less than 5 minutes. Selfish, rude and bad manners everywhere you look - hate it.

Spot on Amanda - the amount of times you see people just trying to push out of side roads when they have no right of way because waiting 10 seconds longer for a gap is just unacceptable to their self-importance. Or parking in disabled or family spaces or in bus stops.

5 1/2 hours from Southampton to Mansfield on a Friday afternoon, I'd say you've done well 

Thats what my lad said, sat nav said original time of arrival 16.06 actual return time 18.15. That's nine holes al never get back 😁

Ma rang and said she's on the boat, me dad says " which way did you go home" "er the way you suggested dad". "Oh" he says.

Or people so obsessed with their "right of way" they never let anyone out, even in slow moving traffic.

If Southern English drivers learned to use the motorway lanes properly they would all move much more efficiently.
Middle [fast] and outside [slow] lanes packed with the inside lane empty for many sections.

Last year I drove Southampton to Preston on a Friday it took me 9 hours.

Off to the Highlands next week where you can sometimes drive for half an hour without seeing another car. Bliss.

Another post that reeks of anti-English racism, or more accurately anti-southern-English Racism. Do you honestly believe it's only southern English that have poor Motorway Lane discipline. You really are a stupid man.

Have driven in Ireland a number of times. It is a joy to drive over there.
