... Taking my TM #3 Hybrid out of the bag and adding a 50* AW.

Problem is that'll mean I'll be carrying four wedges (PW, AW,SW,LW). Seems a little excessive to me, however I feel I'll get more benifit from the extra wedge than I currently do from the hybrid.

Anyone else carry 4 wedges?

Na but I think I am going to. I have PW-50-56 and may get a 60*

Opinion is very divided on here about the number of wedges.
I carried 4, changed to 3, didn't like it so went back to 4.

My reasoning for carrying 4 is that from 180-220 yards out I'm unlikely to hit the Green, I'm going to be left with a chip of some sort. If I have a choice of 4 wedges then I'm going to have the right club for the job. Some will say that's over-complicating things but as long as you know what each wedge will do in a certain situation then ot doesn't.
I also use the wedges as full irons. Having 4-LW in the bag, with a reasonably even spread of lofts/distances, it means I have a full shot iron for any distance from 200-75 yards - I don't have to hit a 3/4 PW as I can hit a full GW instead. To me its better to keep a consistent swing with the irons to help control. Under 75 yards the "feel" factor comes in, playing 3/4 and 1/2 shots. But if I can get away without doing this I generally score better.

I carry 4 wedges, the same set up as you would have.
I would never consider dropping one as it not only gives versatility around the green also gives a wealth of options between 50-120 yards allowing me to make more full swings when hitting shorter approaches

I carry 4 wedges. I Put the 50 deg GW in to fill in the rather large distance gap between my SW (95-100 yards) to my PW (130-135) yards, as I found I was getting the distance wrong a lot when I tried to hit 3/4 PW type shots.

Im also practicing using it for pitch type shots ( 30yds-90yds, that I currently only use my SW for) to get a lower trajectory on them and to give me more distance options.

Apart from that though I only really use my PW and GW for full shots (except for very occasionally) and use my LW and SW for all shots around the green, chips, sand shots etc...

I carry three at the moment but could quite easily go down to two if I had to by dumping the gap wedge (50) and utilising the Sand and Pitching wedges a bit more.
That's what a real golfer would do, isnt it?

I've got room in my bag for another wand, so i've ordered the 52* Nike to go with my current 2. Lessens the gap I currently have between PW and SW 47ish to 56* - makes sense to me...

If you want the wedges so you can be extra creative round the greens, and play full shots into them - why not get it done.

I used to carry 4 wedges, pw 52 56 60, but I found that it just complicated things for me!
I now just carry my pw and a 54* wedge. I find that I can play most short game shots with my 54, opening it up or closing it in to play various shots.
I also find that my practice time is better spent spent learning to use just one wedge well and not 3 not very well as time is limited, if that makes sense?
I also use my hybrid a fair bit around the greens too.

The gap between my PW and SW is the reason I'm considering the extra wedge. Looking at a 45*,50*, 55* and 60* set-up.

Fully understand mate.

Full hits for me, when i've connected:

PW 100-110 yards.
SW 70-80 yards.
LW 45-55 yards.

The 15 yard difference between what i'd expect to hit my lob wedge and sand wedge is fine, i'm comfortable choking down on my sand wedge and making a decent connection.

Choking down on, or 3/4 swinging the pitching wedge doesn't work for me currently, so i'd sooner have the 52* in the bag which will give me an option for 80-100 yards out.

Looking at my logic, i'm not sure i've thought this through properly.
:o :o

I carry 4 wedges, 47(based on my tmr9tp), 52, 56 and 60, I tried going 47, 54, 58, but I just didnt feel right, bit like Imurg, I dont need an extra wood or hybrid, my yardages are fine there, but i like the wedges.
47 goes 125 ish
52 goes 115(but like to use it all the way in!)
56 goes 100 (use it for bunkers too)
60 goes 70 ( also used for short bunker shots and lobbing it high! )

I have 4 and if I were forced to drop one it would be the 60. There's just too much of a gap between PW and SW to think about doing without the gap wedge.

Currently using 3, the GW being my weapon of choice most often around the greens. The 60 deg may come back into the bag later in the year if we ever get any rain, but at the moment I'm preparing for a week of links golf and my 60 deg and tight lies do not get on! :D
