Haven't used one for a while as I've been more than happy off the tee with my 3 wood, however I'm thinking about going back to one to squeeze a few more yards out as it will start brining a couple of par 5's into play at my course. I've had an RBZ in the past which I donated to my son as he hits it really well. I'd like to stick with TM really, although open to other suggestions. Budget won't stretch to a new M1/M2 sadly, so I was thinking about maybe a secondhand SLDR or something similar. What are peoples thoughts on various clubs?

imo the best driver for a a stupid low price it a callaway xhot/xhot 2. cheap as chips, forgiving and goes for bloody miles

Aeroburner if sticking with TM; I found the SLDR incredibly hard to hit consistently.

If there's an AG near you then have a bash with the Benross HTX driver which can be picked up sub-£100 and is a really solid club.

Cant disagree

I got an immaculate Xhot2 pro for 50 quid on the bay

Its the best driver i have owned. The pro version is remarkably forgiving and as you say, stupid long.

The Xhot 2 is good. I had one for a year and then fell out of love a bit with it and changed. Used my mates two weeks ago and still goes miles and easy to hit. For the price they are now, they are great

The SLDR is pretty hard to hit, out of the sweet spot its an animal.

I found the callaway xhot pro and xhot2 pro both pretty unforgiving. The SLDR was fine until some bright spark commented " you hit that SLDR really well, I'm surprised!! what with it being very unforgiving" never hit a good shot with it afterwards.

TBH the M2 is amazingly forgiving with the right shaft. goes miles and it doesn't have to be out the middle either.

Happy with my Ping G30 which can be had pretty cheap now on Gumtree etc. Went from TM to the Ping and hitting it a similar distance, slightly longer but much straighter which is the main thing.

Titleist 910 is the best driver i've played. Very forgiving, can imagine that the newer versions to be better and can be found cheaper now.

Also found the ping g30 very good too, was just too much cost wise for me at the time.

Had a mess about with Drivers at the weekend whilst out and about. Was really impressed with the Cobra F6 with the black tie shaft. Sounds awful but goes well even on off centre hits. If I was in the market for a driver that's what I would look at. Like you though, happy with my 3w off the tee as it goes miles.

Number 1 about a driver is you have to like the way it sits behind the ball, whether titleist, tm, mizuno, cobra whatever it doesn't matter. The technology in all brands is basically maxed out, if you have good technique you can hit any driver, if you want optimal results get fitted. Any problems you gave hitting driver are caused by you not the club, go see a pro. Get an old persimmon drive have a bit of fun. Golf is an easy game too many people overcomplicate the game, when really the best approach to it is hit ball to target, hole put, target target target. That is the only swing thought you need. TAKE DEAD AIM. Harvey Penwick. #legend

If I was you I would go to the local golf shops and check out their second hand bucket and see what you can take out for a trial before committing to buying one, if you haven't used one for a while I would go with an open mind and just give a few a try on the course before buying.

You mentioned about RBZ, perhaps give that another try as you would be able to pick one of those up very cheaply these days.

I think fitting is great if you have the budget to buy a brand new driver, but on a budget I would say that demoing 2nd hand drivers on the course will work very well helping you find the right one.

Cobra Fly Z. I know its a few years old but the only driver to get near it for me is the M2 taylormade. Can pick them up for under a £100 now

I managed to pick up a near perfect G25 Ping Driver with headcover for £60 nearly 2 years ago, still got it in the bag and not thinking of changing anytime soon.

Well thanks to the generosity of aforum member I'm soon to be the proud owner of an SLDR with x stiff shaft. Lets see if I can get back into the forum distance driving league!:D

I was in the same boat - I had been using my old TM R9

I did try a SLDR, but could not really get on with it with a stiff and extra stiff shaft - although I'm a hight hadicapper

I have just brought last years M2 with stiff shaft (ebay) - and have to say been really impressed and now after a 3 wood also now

Hope it works out ok with the SLDR for you
