As many of you know Aylesbury Park GC is due to have HS2 run straight through the middle of it in the next couple of years and we have been looking at all the local clubs to find a new "home"

Well we think we have found it, slightly off our original radar, but played it today and loved it.

Where?

Whipsnade Park, next door to the zoo

The clubhouse and first tee box are in Hertfordshire, but the rest of the course is in Bedfordshire.
Price is right, travelling time is no worse than to Aylesbury.
Really nicely laid out course, great facilities, active seniors (im 55 at Xmas), good grub

nothing negative at all

Well happy

Interesting ... and will it give you a chance to pull those 7 lost matches back or is your backside toast!

It's a decent course - pretty good choice , I know they picked up a lot from Mentmore early doors to make it a bit busy at first , always in decent condition as well

When we rocked up for the 8.03 tee time there were 3 other cars in the car park and we didn't see a soul on the course until the 11th hole.. Greens had not long been "done" so very sandy but a thoroughly enjoyable morning.

Eeeekkk, this is the first time I have herd anyone say anything nice about it. The number one complaint being that its so dull and unmemorable.

Hope youll are right and its a great new home.

I played it a few months ago, was in nice condition, very lush compared to ours at the time (which wasnt in the best of nick).

Found the layout a little samey, struggle to remember too many specific holes now (apart from the first par 3 where I hit it to an inch) but enjoyed the game for sure and would happily play it again.

Lovely barmaid too if memory serves me rightly :)

Have you played it Young Alex?

I think so. It was one of the courses me and a pal looked at years ago but went for AVGC instead. My mother in law played it recently and then separately my father in law. Just before they did I was told it was bland but did not want to spoil it for the inlaws. They both reported back that it was dull.

One mans trash is another mans gold :o

My hope is you report back in a few months how awesome it is as its very close to my house and my wife and child are both members at the zoo so it would be kinda ideal.

Well its a league up from Aylesbury Park thats for sure

there are a couple of "pairs" of holes, Dogleg left, turn around, dogleg right, but these are separated by the par 3's and the decent number of par 5's.
but wouldnt say its up n down or samey
at £700 for a 5 day membership its only £100 more than we are paying at the moment.

Don't go too close to the wire fence, you may get hooked back to the other side thinking you're an escapee

When I played it recently the was a wallaby sitting just the other side of the wire fence on the first hole.

when i cycled around there back in the 90's there were loads of the buggers jumping around all over the place. They had escaped from the zoo and were breeding. I would have thought you couldn't move for them by now.

tut tut tut tut tut tut tut tut 'what's that Skippy' tut tut tut tut the chuckle brothers are back, tut tut tut tut tut yeah I agree Skippy, that fence isn't tall enough to stop Fraggers balls, tut tut tut tut tut tut, yeah get everyone inside quickly :D

When I read this I thought that I didn't remember the wallabies escaping, as I lived close by for years. Then thinking back I realised that I moved away in '82! Boy am I forgetting how old I am now :(

No joining fee, but they are getting fairly close to full and may impose one if they get a waiting list, we aim to get in before that happens.

Robin , Robin, Robin
