Think Of Changing My Irons

I upgraded to Ping s56's about 18 months ago before I started messing with my swing and hit them great. Just loved the look and feel of the club. With all the changes in my swing over the past year the quality of my strike has gone right downhill and I actually think the s56's are damaging my game at the moment.

They are a great club but I get really punished for any off centre strikes.

As much as I don't want to change I'm seriously considering it until I start getting a consistent quality strike again.

I had G10's before and loved them. So G20's are an obvious choice if I go for latest clubs out.

Obviously i20's, G15's and i15's are a Ping option as well. The 15's I could probably get for reasonable money too.

I'm going to go hit a few different makes\models of clubs before I decide and if I do change then go get custom fit.

What other options do you guys recommend ? Probably looking for a game improver iron, so still workable but with some forgiveness as well.

Changing irons isn't going to cure your problems.

Beat me to it Chris.

Since I took up the game in 2010 I've had more swing changes than Porridge Harrington, especially moving from a traditional swing to Stack and Tilt but I still have the R7 bats I took the game up with and, to be honest, don't see me getting rid for a long time.

I've had moments where I've been tempted by new shineys, but always resisted and stuck with what I know. I'm currently shooting better than my H/C most outings, so again, can't justify a change.

It's your money at the end of the day Westy, and, as I've said before golf is a hobby you should enjoy. If getting new shineys hepls you enjoy it, best of luck to ya

Mizuno MX25, 23, 19 Latest to earliest of Forged GI.

Nice feel, workable, forgiving!

And these are seriously long and forgiving! http://benrossgolf.com/index.php?page=quad+speed+rip+iron

I know a Pro who uses these. A hacker mate hit the one shot he tried with them absolutely superbly!

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the MX25's are the only ones that are forged.

But throwing money at the problem won't improve things, concentrate on fixing the problem. After all, you've already told us that your striking used to be fine so you know it's in there somewhere.

I went yesterday to have a swing with some TM superlaunch's and some Nike Slingshots. Read up about them over the weekend and got it in my head that the TM's would be perfect but did nothing for me, not sure if the head is too big (visually) or was slightly heavier than what I'm used to, the slingshots felt good but no better than my trusty old rams. Going back next week to have a decent swing with the pro and see what I think.

MX23 also Forged.

MX19 was Cast - apologies, little experience of those; had just heard they were the forerunners (and 17 before that?).

Here's about the point at which I think a 'spare' set is convenient - and not all that expensive. If game is not at a state where the 'dream' set are a bit too unforgiving, then it is possible to use the 'forgiving' set until swing is back up to speed. It really depends on where you want to allocate your resources - both time and money.

Believe me I'm not throwing money at trying to fix a problem thinking new shineys are going to fix things. I had constant coaching for the past 18 months and practice 2-3 times a week. I've put the work in.

The last swing re-build has completely messed things up and my coach and I have decided that for what ever reason it's not happening and it's spoiling my enjoyment of the game, so we've decided to try to get the best out of what I have and try to get back to a consistent, albeit not perfect swing.

But at the moment I'm just not striking the ball any where near well enough to be using these irons. That's why I'm thinking go back to a more forgiving iron continue to work on getting my swing consistent again, then start using the s56's. Maybe next year.

tbh, I try not to change kit that often and prefer to stick with what works. But when somethings not working then I start to look at options. Be it coaching, kit change etc.

alot of it is down to confidence with the irons as well, i have recently had to change my daughters irons as she used to have the Nike combo set but had trouble getting a consistent distance off the blades. I bought her a set of Mizuno MP52 and she is now stricking the ball better than ever.

is that you in your new Avatar Gareth? looks like a very good position if it is, that combined with your vids makes me wonder why on earth are you still at 18 handicap? (no offence to 18 h/cappers intended)

Sorry op for going off thread;)
