Things That Gladden The Heart

I’m waiting for the knock on the door one day to find out my kids have an older sibling none of us were aware of. Joys of a miss spent youth early in my Army days posted to Germany 👀😂
Only the one. I am disappointed 😂👍
However and I quote Google for this whilst looking for German Lucifer names.

In Germany, using Lucifer directly as a baby name is legally banned because courts and registry offices rule that it impairs the child's well-being. However, German folklore, literature, and Christian mythology are rich with traditional names for the Devil, Satan, and various infernal figures.

Sweet lord, surely that’s an infraction. 😳😂

MrsA made it to 50 before finding out she was the middle child, not the eldest. Her dad was 78 when the older brother came out of the woodwork. 🤣
My mum only found out about a half-sibling from going through her own mum’s papers in order to sort out her affairs after her death.

Turns out there were ‘goings on’ during the war that were kept hush hush, due to more than one aspect that would have been seen as scandalous at the time, and a more judgmental society. I find it sad that Gran chose not to tell anyone even decades later when society had moved on and said events were far in the past; she died suddenly and unexpectedly - and had kept relevant documents - so I do wonder if she did intend to talk about it at some stage.

At least my family tree is not quite as boring, conventional and scandal-free as I had thought 🤣.

Oh I fully expect several knocks at my door, I was a mischievous little devil when I was younger 😂

Just remember the devil was once an angel 😇 😂

I feel a bit left out reading that forummers on here have other siblings. Me I was told by my mum that I wasn’t planned and was a mistake ☹️

Don’t worry I was told that as well they were only planning on having the older 2 then I appeared. Don’t think my sister has ever forgiven me for being born 😂
I remember when me mum said “ eee our Andrew, your the only one of my four kids that takes me and yer dad out, and to think you was not planned”. I said “ eh, you what”. She says “ oh ah, I tried getting rid of you with quinine and Mystic menstroids”. 😳

When I was a kiddie we lived with my Nan and she had an elderly lodger for as long as we could remember.
We were Irish Catholics and he was caretaker at the nearby Church.
He'd often come in at night worse for wear and have to pass through the living room for the outside toilet. Whenever he appeared she'd start cussing and snarling under her breath.I used to take him a cuppa every morning and he'd give me 2 bob on a Friday. I always called him Uncle Maurice.
Fast forward about 60 years when my Mum (one of 7 kids) died, I cleared her things and found a tiny battered leather purse in her drawer.
Inside was a very small, worn photo of...
Uncle Maurice 😶
Grampy?
I'll never know.

Also, years before Mum died I dabbled with Ancestry online. I discovered my Nan had possibly two surnames, Sullivan and Green.
When I asked Mum, who was staying with us, she got a little agitated and started "Pfft" and "Nonsense"ing me, so I let that one slide.
As said earlier, some thing back then were buried and never talked about.
