But I'm still a long, long way from the finished article.

Didn't play much at the weekend due to family commitments. Managed a quick 9 holes Saturday and only 4 on Sunday due to walking in because of, in my opinion, excessive slow play.

From my previous lesson, my pro has me working to eliminate my poor misses as, I have no clear miss losing shots to the left and right. My pro has me hitting, for what feels like the first time, from the inside. He says hitting a push or straight is what he's after with making my bad shot a pull. To say it feels weird (.... Again) is an understatement.

Anyway. Saturdays round was a big positive for me. All I hit was straight. Plenty of pushes and even the odd draw, but more importantly zero shanks and zero pulls

Decided to drop my pro an email to query a few things that were confusing me, which he answered and gave me clear instruction and explanation and even called me after to make sure I understood what he had sent in the email.

Fast forward to this evening. I roll up to the range after work, get set-up. Push, push, push, straight, you get the idea. I decided to make a slight change to my ball position, literally moving the ball forward so that my 7 iron is a half ball, maybe a full ball forward of centre. What happened next, frankly, I couldn't believe.

Push draw, push draw, draw, push draw, push, push draw.

I have never been a drawer of the ball. Ever! I've always been a fader.

Even in my S&T time, I could hit the push draw, but it was never consistant. Nothing to do with the swing pattern, just me not doing it right. Today, all I was hitting were pushes and lovely high push draws. Starting between 5-10 yards to the right of target and gently curving back to the left.

Even when I hit the push I was only missing my target area by the amount the ball was pushed, so between 5-10 yards.

For the first time, pretty much ever, I seem to have taken the left side miss out of my game. I, again hit zero pulls. The only misses I had left were where I drew the ball past the target, or started the ball straight and then the draw spin moved to left. The only time I lost anything right was when I hit a flat out block, or an Arthur J

The pull is dead, long live the push

I'm starting to feel, now, like every change my pro has suggested and made has been leading up to this. Moving my swing in a direction that is massively more consistent than what I had before, limiting my misses to one side of the course as opposed to both and taking the out-to-in path out of my game and giving me a much more controlled shot shape from the inside.

There are still plenty of things to work on but for now I'm content to be moving forward :whoo:

Watch me play like a chopper Wednesday night

Had a better range session tonight. Not happy with the swing but it got the ball flying better. Got 9 holes with Hawkeye on Wednesday so I'll see where I am then. Got a lesson on Friday which I think will be a case of tightening up what I have

Id say your being thought along similar lines to me Gar....Spent the last 5 months having highs and lows and even though not fully there yet its really starting to take shape....I cant get a decent read on how good im getting just yet as the weather is playing havoc with my game...But i shot a nett 70 yesterday in very high winds and the CSS was up to 72....So the past 3 rounds have been 2 buffers and a 0.6 cut......

Im just itching for the day when the greens are good and the weather is also good to see what im really capable of shooting......
Iv tightened up my miss to a push or a slight hook....But they are manageable......I was never able to draw the ball but now i am....
The hardest thing is getting the swing plane more from the inside but now after 5 months of work i actually find it very uncomfortable to swing with the old swing (Thank God).......

Did you sort out the issue you were having last week?

Happy days G, consistent misses to one side are so much easier to deal with in my opinion, unless of course you play somewhere that has all of its trouble to the right haha.

Btw Homer, at least acknowledge the OP and his thread instead of rambling on and taking it of topic please, bad etiquette full stop.

You know, it's funny you mention that. My track sets up pretty well for a fade, but a draw would easily work, I would just have to adjust slightly.

Gar....When you've faded a ball for so long like we have then when you hit a draw its tough to change at first..... But i can still fade it....Just set yourself up a little open with the feet and swing away along the feet line...Try it at the range for a while before getting it on the course......

If you are drawing the ball you have taken the RIGHT SIDE MISS out of your game (push-fade and slice) not the left. If you're not pulling them no worries, that's good golf, but that will and SHOULD always be your miss.... not carving them off to the right

Glad the hard working is starting pay off, keep with it sounds like you made the correct decision to go for it.

Must of been frustrating to walk in after 4! :(

Glad things are going well Gareth.

I can't play or practice until the new shineys turn up. More forgiving and a softer shaft meaning I haven't got to rip every shot, I really should know better by now but hopeful this is the first step forward AGAIN

things are also coming together for me, 7 birdies in the space of 5 days! Played about 36 holes so pretty chuffed!

Im trying to do the opposite, my pro is trying to stop me starting the ball far out to the right and bringing it back. I come too much on the inside and I need to stop wasting energy and distance pushing it out and pulling it back.

Its coming on well, hit some nice soft fades over the last few days with the ball going in a much more controlled manner.

Round our place most trouble is on the right yet those that start the ball right to bring it back suffer the most as trees seem to catch a lot of guys just off the teeboxes. The hackers hitting the 220 yard big fade/slice seem to get away with murder haha.

Very much the same situation I was in last summer was about to quit altogether and sell the clubs to help fund a new car but stuck with it, got a few lessons and am really happy only hit one slice in the last few rounds and turned out better than if I hit it straight :D. Short game lesson on Wednesday and looking forward to getting that part of my game tightened up as I normally neglect it in practice. :)

Mentally scarred pal.

It was, honestly, painful to watch. I finished out our 3rd hole while they walked toward our par 3, 4th.

After I'd been stood on the tee for 10 minutes (... True story) I decided enough was enough.

They had no intention of letting me through as, well, I'd been stuck behind them for all 4 holes so if they were going to let me through they would have done it already.

Time well spent on the short game area so it wan't all bad

Don't get too obsessed with trying hit a draw, think too many people have got Rory McIlroy syndrome. Straight is what you should be aiming for, even the man himself has started arrowing them out there.

I'm far from obsessed fella, it just happened

As I say I've always been a fader of the ball so this is new to me :D

I was very much the same, mine was a casting & rotation problem it took me a good 6 months of lessons to put right. I've spent that much time working on it though I now swing like a pro with a non existent short game. I managed a 5 putt the other day happy gilmore style, hence the handicap. You might take 2 steps forwards and 1 back, stick to the drills your given and eventually it will come together.
