I apologize in advance for the grumpy old man rant about to follow....

I was in Glasgow yesterday with the spouse and little miss Mad and Olivia fancied a Happy Meal so we grabbed one at the drive thru. I ordered, drove to the next window paid my £1.99 and picked up my goodie bag and receipt which stated that 15% VAT had been charged and this got me thinking:

Are MacDonalds bagging the 2.5% VAT reduction instead of passing it on to the customer?

This equates to each store selling an average of 88400 happy meals each year in 1300 stores =115 million meals a year = 5 pence off every happy meal = £5,746,000 profit instead of price reduction ....

As I said at the top of my post for my rant but it is Sunday and H.I.D. is wanting to drag me to a garden centre !!!!!!!!!!

PS

Who else has bagged the VAT reduction ????

My understanding is that the retailers are not compelled to pass on the 2.5% reduction.
What annoys me is that when VAT was 17.5% the product (In this case the Happy Meal) was £1.99.Now with the reduction of VAT it is still £1.99. The meal hasn't got bigger, so where has the extra gone?

I'll quote from MacDonalds...

"We've been passing on the full VAT price reduction in a way that we consider is of most value to our customers by concentrating on a range of menu items that are popular with all of our customers. With our prices being relatively low we felt it was better to cut the price of our most popular menu items rather than passing on a penny here and a penny there. This way our customers will have had a more meaningful reduction - for example 10p off our Big Mac."

So, no drop on an unhappy meal, but some drops for sure.

I can confirm I've paid less on a few occasions for regular meals...

Tasteless crap, kids love them though.

MacDonalds must be responsible for quite a proportion of the country's liter problem. It's incredible the amount of packaging the crap they call food is wrapped in! Normally found in car parks and roads local to MacDonalds fast food outlets.

Whether kids love them or not, they should be banned.

They cant do much for the obesity levels in the country.

The only one of these places(who's names I refuse to utter)we have used in recent years, was one in Germany just to pacify the kids, though they did make great efforts with all the food there, but as a treat for them we used one. Bit different over there, very very clean inside and out and no piles of litter strewn all over the streets, I didnt eat myself so cannot say if the food was any better or worse than here, even if I did I dont think my memory would be able to compare anyway :D.

Big Mac Has always been a waste of money. 10p will make no difference to that. A quarterpounder with chease has always been a better deal I wonder if they have reduced that popular selection by 10p also?

And I'll second the comment about Burger King being better. Or at least it used to be. I had a burger king meal at the tail end of last year & was left more than disapointed.

I know places where I can get a better & bigger burger, sometimes with a pint too.

Ill third the BK comment, the meat in their burgers just tastes a little better and less fatty. I try to keep away for the good of my health with subway getting a hammering these days but I just cant help myself with the meatball marinaras every so often.

BK is definitely better than Mcdonalds! Far superior in terms of taste / food quality and nutritionally slightly better as well according to a report I read a while back. It's still trash food though at the end of the day :D

So they admit taking the 2.5% from the KIDS ITEM and knocking the adult meals down a few pence?

That should be illegal.

That is the annoying thing, they are taking extra money from a KIDS MEAL DEAL !!!!!!!!!
