The Walker Cup

Amazed by Bryson DeChambeau's iron set up,each iron 3-60w is the same length at 37.5 and apparently he puts new golf balls into water to see which are most true, 4 out of 12 dont make it,
Different but clearly works for the guy :)

Was very good golf to watch - no bad for a bunch of nobodies - some cracking shots played.

BBC coverage great as usual - very understated with the golf doing the talking

Commentary by the consummate professional and the bumbling fool.

Alliss and Cotter, you work it out.......:o

Good first day and some excellent golf on display. Shame about the inept commentary again (but I've said this before about BBC)

Is no-one able to just watch the golf any more? Commentary is commentary. If you don't like it, ignore it. It doesn't make or break what you're watching.

Going to be a close finish tomorrow.

Heard this guy on the radio a couple of weeks ago, very weird..

He talks about his "brand" of "Bryson Golf" ala Bubba.
The radio reporter was pretty measured in his assessment.
Another weirdo?

I know Bryson pretty well - he's a real good guy as well a very talented golfer

became this year only the 5th guy ever to win the NCAA Individuals & the US Amateur in the same year ....

sure he's an individual in technique that a good deal to do with him being a Physics major

a 'one plane' setup & swing due to his physics study & reading 'the golf machine'

this as to why his irons are all the approx the same length as a 7i - but to this swing motion technique, crucially, the iron lie's are identical at 69º - ways upright - so at setup with lie & identical length they can be on the identical plane to his left arm at set-up he looks to return to similar plane through impact

iron heads all pretty heavy to accommodate not so much wrist action in this one plane motion (wrist set changes the plane above the hip line) the swing weights are C8, so it's a club head 'force' through weight swing more
shafts are 120g stiff C-tapers

most folks trying to swing these would just hit them real low & right wouldn't get the ball in the air

but he's a real grounded, intelligent, good guy, with a real bunch of 'individual' talent - all characteristics on show for anyone who watched the play on the 18th today particularly how the match ended ......

Wow, 69 degrees!
How tall is he?

it isn't to do with the norm of being static fitted (height + wrist to floor etc) - but the angle he wants to set up at to maintain a one plane, left arm & club shaft in line & then no real wrist set in the motion

he's just a little over 6' - i'm 6' 2" he's a tad shorter

Sure, I understand that.
Haven't seen him in action, just heard him on radio.
I thought the "Bryson Golf" quote was a bit weird, but hey, who's normal? :D

Watching it now. Alliss and Co are complaining about how long the U.S. amateurs take to play their shots, and I frankly agree with them. Hope this is not the future of golf! :(
