The Secret Grip

surely that's illegal?

I'm struggling with my grip. I am naturally left handed but play right handed, and my left hand keeps turning over, making me close the clubface.

I have had a few lessons, and the pro is tearing his hair out trying to sort the grip. I said to him last time "can I not just buy grips that keep my hands in the right place?" he said yes you can, but they are illegal.

How do you get on when you play left handed?

Edit - yep, heard about them, never looked into them, the putter one isn't illegal to my knowledge

There's plenty of manufacturers including Odyssey, Ping and Scotty making counterbalanced putters, so can't be illegal.

Nothing in the rules to make counterbalancing illegal for other clubs than putters either. They just state that the grip must not be moulded to guide the hands and that it must be circular in diameter (for clubs other than the putter).

Anyone else seen / used one of these?

It's basically a weighted grip for all your clubs (not just putter). Apparently it makes the club feel more like a baseball bat in it's dynamics.... so you get more distance and find it easier to swing?

Surely it still depends on being swung properly and won't cure bad swings especially those coming over the top. Interesting concept but can't see it taking off

hopeless!

Gas, yeah your pro was referring to these moulded grips that would put your hands in the right place, not legal. Besides, it is what your hand is doing through impact is the issue, it's too strong. Perhaps sit on it for 20 minutes and then swing. See if that helps.

Yep. I'm a fully qualified professional and you should definitely listen to my advice.

I have one of these grips had it on my driver never noticed any difference I then put it on my wedge but no longer use the wedge. Grip somewhere in my garage loose you can have it if you like.
