The Scottish National Trust

English National Trust cafes are marvellous places. Tea and cake all round and it is always a pleasure. Can't comment on the Scottish version.

Used to have to drag my (now ex) wife out of them when she started to have an argument about hunting! Stopped going to them in the end, but certainly nice for a touch of gentility!

NTS sites are expensive on admissions and everything else they sell in the obligatory tea room and tat shop, however they do a good job and I don't think they're in it for big profits but I guess overheads on these heritage sites are high and they have to balance the books when once they were subsidised. I suggest you take a picnic next time! Membership works out a lot cheaper too if you're a frequent visiting culture vulture!

NTS Membership was always cheaper than England, many skinflints in England used to join the NTS to save a few pounds as there is a reciprocal arrangement with Members.

The Scottish ones generally good but my local one is clueless.
They seem to spend more energy working out how to keep folk out then welcoming them in.
Costs a non member family £27 just to walk round the park.
