I have been playing quite well lately.
I tend to play even better in Medals, probably because I concentrate on every shot, but the scores will just not come.

It is the same old problem every round I play, I start quite well & think to myself this is going ok & then I suddenly have a horror hole & a few holes later it will happen again, by this time the card is wrecked.

Really annoying, because I know I am capable of a really good round, but it's just not happening.

Sounds as though once you have a bad hole you go chasing it and make more errors on the back of the one bad score. You need to consign it to history and let the pars (gross or nett) come and continue to play sensibly. You probably get a bit tense and start swinging quicker and start taking on riskier shots and course management goes out of the window. I know I'm guilty as charged on all counts.

One bad hole in a medal isn't the end of the world. You may not win but once the score is changed to a double bogie thee is still a chance to get cut so you need to stay positive and keep doing what you'd been doing prior to the one bad hole. If the bad holes are the same every time you might want to look at your strategy on them

It's the old adage, play one hole at a time. Don't get ahead of yourself and start thinking things like 'if I can par in from here I'll get cut 0.6' or whatever.

Try to play the 18 holes then add up the numbers when you finish and see what the total is.

This is probably true of most golfers and why playing to handicap (i.e. in the BZ or below) only about once every 4 or 5 rounds is normal.

I always seem to have a couple of holes that ruin my card. First comp of the season I shot 82 with 2 triples.:(

Golf is apparently an old scottish word for "if only".
